Hiroshima Carp

  • Hiroki Kuroda on why he decided to return to Japan: "I will be turning forty in February and I'm not sure how many years I have left. I think I might get a better feel for the importance of each pitch by playing for the Carp. ... There is importance in America as well, but I think I don't have a lot of pitches left in me and I felt I might feel more satisfication in pitching [for the Carp]. ... I didn't really set a limit. I'll be okay if the last mound I throw off of [is in Japan]. I don't want to feel any regrets about not pitching in Japan after ending my career." Kuroda said the energy/feeling he got from Carp fans and others involved also played a big role in his decision. Source: Daily Sports 1/16/2015

Chunichi Dragons

  • The Dragons players association officials, Yohei Oshima, Masato Matsui, Naomichi Donoue, and Yusuke Matsui, and team staff visited Inuyama Naritasan Temple on Friday to pray for a successful season. Source: Sports Hochi 1/16/2015
  • The entire 2014 draft class (excluding Ikusei players) could be assigned to Ichi-gun spring camp, assuming the training coaches or trainers find no reason to start them at Ni-gun. The Dragons selected the players from higher ranks (college and up) because they were looking for immediate help. Head coach Shigekazu Mori told reporters on Friday that Motonobu Tanishige wants a chance to see the players early on during camp to get a better feel for what they might be able to bring to the table.
