  • The Hawks are not planning to hire extra security guards to keep an eye on Daisuke Matsuzaka during spring camp. They may have someone on staff check in to make sure he is not being overrun by fans. There are also no plans to assign him a personal media relations assistant. Source: Sports Hochi 1/29/2015 ... Matsuzaka worked out at the Saitozaki facilities on Thursday. After running, he played some catch (about forty throws) and threw sliders, change-ups, and curves. He is not planning to toss a bullpen session on the first day of spring camp. Source: Sponichi 1/29/2015, Nikkan Sports 1/29/2015
  • Kenta Imamiya is trying to use more of his lower body when swinging the bat. He switched over to a slightly longer bat -- from 33.5 inches to thirty-four inches. Imamiya is hoping to add a little more pop to his swing (not necessarily home runs). He is also working on going to the opposite field on inside pitches. Source: Sponichi 1/29/2015
  • Kodai Senga threw ninety pitches, including the slider, curve, and forkball, to a squatting catcher on Wednesday. He told reporters his shoulder was still at about sixty percent. Source: Nikkan Sports 1/29/2015
  • Nao Higashihama and fifth round draft pick Yosuke Shimabukuro tossed bullpen sessions at the same time on Wednesday. Higashihama threw twenty pitches, all fastballs, to a squatting catcher. • Naoyuki Uwasawa missed practices on Wednesday because of a swollen and inflamed right leg. He was treated at a hospital. The cause may have been a bite from a bug. It will most likely take two to three days for the leg to feel better. If it gets infected, it could take a week or two. Source: Nikkan Sports 1/29/2015
  • Shohei Otani is thinking about re-visiting the change-up. He threw it a few times a game during his first year, but moved away from it last year because he felt he did not need it (he was also able to turn to the forkball). Now in his third year, he thinks it might be good to bring it back. He threw twenty-five pitches to a squatting catcher in the bullpen on Wednesday. He threw from the set position and mixed in sliders, curves, and three change-ups. Source: Sports Hochi 1/29/2015, Sponichi 1/29/2015 ...
