The Bay Stars are the first team in Central League history to head into the break with a .500 record. The previous "low" was six games above .500: Daiei at 30-24-3 in 1953, Nankai at 30-24-1 in 1953, Yomiuri at 41-35-0 in 1992, and Seibu at 42-36-3 in 2000. It is the first time the first and last place teams were separated by just four games. Before this year, the closest the last place team was to the first place team at the break was six games in 1993. It is the fourth time in NPB history teams in second place or lower have records under .500. The other three times: 1962 and 1965 in the Pacific League and 2011 in the Central League.
