Takeya Nakamura started the day with 999 hits and 299 home runs. He blasted a solo home run off Nippon Ham's Shohei Otani in the 4th inning and became the forty-first player in NPB history to hit 300 home runs and the 281st player in NPB history to record 1,000 hits. He reached the 300 home run milestone in his 1,158th career game, good for eighth fastest in NPB history, ahead of Hideki Matsui (1,200th game).
Nakamura was not yet done.
In the following inning, with the bases loaded and one out, Nakamura took Otani deep for the second time tonight and tied Sadaharu Oh for first on the all-time list with the fifteenth grand slam of his career.
