There are 161 registered pitchers from the forty-nine schools participating in the Summer Koshien tournament this year. The Japan High School Baseball Federation announced today that the pitchers were examined and none were banned from pitching due to shoulder or elbow problems.

- The captain that reads the player oath is usually selected in a drawing. Organizers wanted to do something different this year because they are celebrating 100 years since the first tournament and selected Toba to honor the first champions from 1915. (Kyoto Dai-Ni Junior High School won the first tournament in 1915. Kyoto Dai-Ni later became Toba.)
- Toba (Kyoto) captain Seigo Umetani will present the player's oath during the opening ceremony.
