Tony Barnette, Yakult Swallows (First Time)

Recorded a save in all eight appearances he made in July and recordeds saves in ten straight games going back to June 28. First Yakult pitcher to win an MVP of the Month award since Shohei Tateyama in September 2012; first foreign Yakult pitcher since Seth Greisinger in June 2007.

21 G, 36-for-83, 10 HR, 25 RBI, 8 SB, .434 BA

Recorded at least one hit in seventeen (and multiple hits in thirteen) of the twenty-one games he played in in July. Led the league in batting average (.434), home runs (10), RBI (25), hits (36), on base percentage (.489), and stolen base (8). Batted clean-up for the first time in his career on July 10 and recorded two hits, including a home run.

* Shohei Tateyama and Wladimir Balentien were the last Yakult players to record MVP of the Month awards in the same month (March/April 2012).

Pacific League

Rick van den Hurk, Softbank Hawks (First Time)

Pitched in five games in July and led the league with three wins (tied with other players). He was the only qualifying pitcher to win three games without any loses. Led the league in innings (32.0) and strikeouts (41). His ERA was third best in the league. Fourth first year player in Hawks history to win an MVP of the Month. The other three: Jose Nunez (June 1996), Rodney Pedraza (June 1999), and Nagisa Arakaki (July 2003).

Takeya Nakamura, Seibu Lions (First Time)
21 G, 22-for-76, 8 HR, 26 RBI, 1 SB, .289 AVG

Batted clean-up in all twenty-one games he played in in July. Led the leage in home runs (8), RBI (26), and total bases (52). His slugging percentage (.711) was second best in the league. Recorded his 300th home run and 1,000th hit on the same swing on July 24 and tied Sadaharu Oh's grand slam record with the fifteenth of his career in the same game. Joined Akihito Kaneishi (May 1992, fourteenth year) and Makoto Kaneko (April 2009, sixteenteenth year) as players that won their first MVP of the Month award in their fourteenth year or later.
