Yomiuri Giants

  • The home plate umpire thought Tetsuya Yamaguchi might be putting something on his throwing hand because he was going to his back pocket after each pitch he threw during a Hiroshima game on August 7. Things got a little heated when he questioned Yamaguchi. Hayato Sakamoto stepped in to make sure his teammate did not do anything to get ejected. Tatsunori Hara jumped out of the dugout to find out what was going on and ended up pulling the reliever. • The Giants struck out twenty-one times in twelve innings on August 7 and unofficially set a new record for most strikeouts in a game. The previous record of twenty was held by three other teams: Yomiuri on September 16, 1938 (fourteen innings, thirteen through nine innings), Yakult on July 6, 1993 (twelve innings; sixteen through nine innings), and Lotte on April 21, 1995 (ten innings, nineteen through nine innings). Hanshin Tigers

  • Takumi Akiyama could get a start on August 12 against Chunichi at Kyocera Dome. Akiyama had a solid game against Ni-gun Chunichi on August 5: 6.0 IP, 21 BF, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 SO, 1 ER. Source: Sanspo 8/8/2015

Hiroshima Carp

  • Shota Nakazaki hit Yomiuri's Yasuyuki Kataoka on the head with a pitch during a game on August 7. He approached the infielder during batting practice on August 8 and apologized. Source: Sponichi 8/8/2015

Chunichi Dragons

  • Masahiro Yamamoto is slated to get his first start of the year on August 9 against Yakult at Nagoya Dome. He will be forty-nine years and eleven months. Source: Sponichi 8/8/2015
  • Drew Naylor blasted the first home run of his NPB career on August 7 against Yakult at Nagoya Dome and became: the first Chunichi pitcher to hit a home run since Soma Yamauchi against Yokohama at Yokohama on April 21, 2013; and the first Chunichi pitcher to hit a home run and record a win in the same game since Kenshin Kawakami against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome on July 29, 2005. Catcher Iori Katsura also hit a home run on August 7. The two became the first Chunichi battery to hit home runs in the same game since Motonobu Tanishige and Melvin Bunch went back-to-back against the Giants at Tokyo Dome on July 30, 2002. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/8/2015 ... Naylor became the first pitcher to record his first win and home run in the same game since Ryan Vogelsong (Hanshin) against Chunichi on April 12, 2007; and the second Chunichi pitcher to accomplish the feat, first since Akira Yonemura against Yakult on August 23, 1986. Regarding Yamaguchi’s sticky fingers, isn’t it enough for Yomiuri to cheat in the draft? Do they really need to cheat during games, too?
