[9/18/2015] Yokohama Bay Stars: Hisanori Takahashi formally announces retirement

by on Sep.18, 2015 @ 8:57 pm, under NPB

Hisanori Takahashi held a press conference at the Yokohama Bay Stars' team offices in Yokohama earlier today. He formally announced his decision to retire at the end of the season.

A few notes taken from various sources:

  • He does have some regrets, but is mostly satisfied with the career he has had.
  • He felt refreshed and at ease after making the decision to retire.
  • He informed general manager Shigeru Takada about his decision around September 10.
  • He started thinking about retiring about two to three years ago. He starting talking about it to his family last year.
  • Physically, he could probably pitch for a little longer. Mentally, he felt that he was not into it as much.
  • The home run he gave up to Hiroshima's Takahiro Arai on August 16 pushed him toward retirement.
  • He regretted not being able to do more for Kiyoshi Nakahata.
  • He is interested in becoming a coach.
  • A retirement ceremony is slated for October 2.
  • Most memorable moment: his first appearances: his first NPB appearance, his first Nippon Series appearance, his first MLB appearance.
  • Most memorable hitter: Hideki Matsui.
