Softbank Hawks

  • Intra-squad game on October 19: Yuki Yanagita got the start in center field and batted third. He recorded a double to left-center in the 3rd inning. Source: Nikkan Sports 10/19/2015
  • Intra-squad game on October 20: Tadashi Settsu gave up a run on three hits over four innings. Yanagita went 2-for-3, including a triple off Settsu in the 1st inning. Seiichi Uchikawa drove Yanagita in with a timely hit. Jason Standridge tossed four shutout innings. Source: Daily Sports 10/20/2015, Sponichi 10/20/2015, Sponichi 10/20/2015
  • Shota Takeda will most likely get the Game 1 start. After that, it could go Rick van den Hurk, Kenichi Nakata, and Tadashi Settsu. Jason Standridge could start a potential Game 5. From there, it could go back to Takeda and van den Hurk. Takeda could go in Game 5, if Softbank is down in the series. Kodai Senga and Hayato Terahara will most likely pitch out of the bullpen. Yakult Swallows

  • Potential starters: Masanori Ishikawa, Yasuhiro Ogawa, Shohei Tateyama, Toshihiro Sugiura, and Taichi Ishiyama. Source: Sanspo paper from October 21
  • Mitsuru Manaka does not want to announce his starters the day before each game because he feels it would only help Softbank -- the Hawks are pretty much a right-handed starting rotation while the Swallows do have one left-handed pitcher in Masanori Ishikawa. Assuming Manaka does not change his mind, there will be no announced starting pitchers during the Nippon Series. Since 1998, the announced starter rule was accepted by managers from both leagues four times: 1998, 2005, 2013, and 2014.
