Yakult Swallows

  • The Swallows will be celebrating Jingu Stadium's nintieth anniversary this year. They commissioned Masashi Larry Oiwa to create a commemorative logo, which will be featured on special bases during games on March 29, 30, 31, and July 18. They will also be hosting a Happy 90th Anniversary Jingu Stadium Day on July 18. Source: official announcement

Yomiuri Giants

  • Hisayoshi Chono homered in each of the team's first two games of the season. He is the first player in franchise history to accomplish the feat since Kazuhiro Kiyohara in 2002. The two home runs gave Chono ninety-nine over his career. Source: Daily Sports 3/27/2016, Sponichi 3/27/2016
  • Yoshinobu Takahashi joined Hideo Fujimoto (three in 1944) and Motoshi Fujita (four in 1981) as the only managers in franchise history to start their first year with three straight victories.   • Ni-gun hitting coach Tomohiro Nioka had surgery to remove a mediastinal tumor. The growth was discovered during a routine examination in January. He will remain in the hospital for about a week and will then spend some time resting at home. Source: Tokyo Sports 3/29/2016

Hanshin Tigers

  • Since 1960, Matt Hague is the only foreign player in franchise history to record at least one RBI and one timely hit in three consecutive games, beginning on opening day. Source: Sanspo 3/28/2016

  • First round draft pick Shun Takayama recorded his first career NPB RBI on March 26. He set a new franchise speed record for rookies that made the starting line-up from the beginning of the season by notching his first RBI in his sixth plate appearance.
