As manager of KomazawaDai Tomakomai, Koda got to the Spring Koshien twice and Summer Koshien six times.  He also managed Masahiro Tanaka (RAK).  Koda left KomazawaDai Tomakomai in 2008 and became a member of the Tsurumi University coaching staff in the same year.

UPDATE @ 9:24pm - All players named to the Samurai Japan roster will be receiving Samurai Japan pin badges.  Designs for the badges will change with each tournament.

Being a title holder [was an important factor].  And within that, young players with bright futures.  Chances to play in international games do not come very often.  I think their experiences playing for Samurai Japan will lead to their successes.  We kept that in mind when making our selections.

This is the second police team to be recognized as a JABA Club Team.  The other: The Keishcho Baseball Team (Tokyo) on 3/9/2011.

Sakai spent a a number of years coaching in Taiwain (1999-2007; both for the national team and for the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions) before joining the Yokohama Bay Stars as a scout in 2008.  He then became a pitching coach for the the Shinano Grandserows in 2011.

"Inter-City Tournament games last year averaged about 2 hours and 43 minutes.  In order to shorten that a bit more, we will have the second base ump carry a stop-watch," said Takashi Nakamoto, head of the Umpire's Regulations Committee.

The 20-second rule covers the time it takes the pitcher to pitch the ball after getting it back from the catcher when there are no runners on base.

As part of this move, the Inter-City Tournament was pushed up to July this year, a first since 2001.  The association also wanted to move the Industrial League Championships up a month as well, but decided it would not be possible until at least next year (the last time they took place in October was in 2002).

The goal of ending the tournament season in October is to increase the amount of time players put in with their respective companies.

Sugimoto managed the Nippon Tsuun (Nippon Express Co) Industrial League team for nine years beginning in 1992 and helped guide them to the Inter-city Tournament finals twice (1993, 1997).  He was also the manager for the national team in 2005 (Asia Baseball Championship) and 2009 (IBAF World Cup).
