[3/18/2016] Japan remains top-ranked team in WBSC Baseball World Rankings

The World Baseball Softball Confederation released their latest Baseball World Rankings on March 18. Japan remained in the top stop with 5,154 points. The United States stayed in second with 5,091 points.

[3/7/2016] Samurai Japan collects 365,973yen in donations

Samurai Japan announced on March 7 that they received 365,973yen in donations during their two-game series against Chinese Taipei. The money will be donated to the following organizations:

Samurai Japan also issued an apology to fans that were affected by a seating problem at Nagoya Dome on March 5. Reserved infield seats on the first base side (321 seats) were accidentally marked as non-reserved. Ticket holders to the section were unable to sit in their seats because they were already occupied. These ticket holders were relocated to a non-reserved section on the fifth floor.

The NPB held an executive committee meeting in Tokyo on March 7. Among issues discussed:

  • Doing a better job of recognizing umpires with additional awards. The hope is provide umpires with the motivation to continue honing their skills. There will be three new awards: an Honorable Mention Award for young and middle-aged umpires worth 300,000 yen and a Fine Judge Award worth 200,000 yen.
  • Establishing a council with the Baseball Federation of Japan in April to promote baseball.

Lotte also issued a formal apology to other members of the NPB for the incident involving Yamaico Navarro.

Samurai Japan vs Chinese Taipei Series updates:

  • Samurai Japan mascots -- Oen Samurai Tamabe, Daola, Tsubakuro, Kumatan, Kumatan's girlfriend, and Osomatsu-san's Iyami -- will be appearing in a pre-game event outside Nagoya Dome on March 5. Source: official announcement

A new Samurai Japan poster featuring seven players from all levels -- like Shohei Otani (top team), Seigi Tanaka (college), Kotaro Kiyomiya (18U) -- will be distributed to about 600 locations nationwide. The poster will come in two sizes: B1 and B2. The poster also includes a schedule for 2016 tournaments.

[2/29/2016] Samurai Japan: Women’s Baseball World Cup Preliminary Roster

The Women's Baseball Federation of Japan released their preliminary roster for the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup (September, Busan, Korea) after their tryout on February 28. Sixty-four players were competing for a spot on the preliminary roster, twenty-four made the cut. The final roster will have room for twenty players.

NPB Enterprise announced that they will be collecting donations for victims of the Tohoku earthquake and the recent Southern Taiwan earthquake during the Samurai Japan vs Chinese Taipei series. Players from both teams will call on fans to make donations before the game. Players will also use helmets with Gambaro Japan and Jia You Taiwan stickers.
