JWBL: West Flora takes Sendai Tournament by beating South Dione 2-1

West Flora beat South Dione 2-1 on Sunday to take the Sendai Tiara Cup Tournament. East Astraia fininshed in third with their 9-1 victory over North Reia.
West Flora's Mika Konishi was selected MIP of the tournament. She almost lost a game by giving up two runs in the 7th inning of Saturday's game against North Reia, but recovered a picked up her third save of the year. She came back on Sunday and notched her fourth win of the season by holding South Dione to just one run on five hits over seven full innings of work.
Akane Nakamura was awarded the JTB Award for hitting the game-deciding two-run single in the Finals game on Sunday.

[6/13/2013] JWBL: Hitomi Tsubouchi to take over as North Reia manager

North Reia manager Kento Sugiyama stepped down from his post today. Former Hyogo Swing Smiley Hitomi Tsubouchi is set to officially take over on the 15th. She will become the first former player to manage a team.
Through fifteen games this season, Reia is in last place with a 4-9-2 record.

East Astraia beat South Dione 9-3 on Saturday to take the Tiara Cup Kyoto Tournament. Maya Kawaho (Astraia) won the MIP award for the tournament by collecting three hits and driving in three runs during the Finals game.

JWBL: West Flora wins Ibaraki Tournament

West Flora won the Ibaraki Tournament by beating South Dione 7-6. Flora had a 5-2 lead going into the top of the 7th, but a hit, an HBP, and an E6 loaded the bases with no out for Dione. Saki Soda pushed across the first run with an RBI single to left, a wild pitch allowed a second run to score. A walk and one out later, with the bases loaded once again, Sachika Tanaka drove in her third run of the game to tie the score at five. Tomoko Tanaka pushed Dione ahead 6-5 with an RBI ground out to second.
Down one run going into the bottom of the 7th, Flora loaded the bases on an E1, walk, and HBP. Yuki Umemoto tied the game by working out a walk. The bases remained juiced after pinch-hitter Ikuyo Matsumoto. Down to one last out, Arisa Kanayama smacked a 2-1 pitch through the left side of the infield to give Flora the walk-off victory.
Natsumi Nakano and Yuki Kawabata powered East Astraia to a 15-3 victory over North Reia for the third place finish.
Tomoko Tanaka Update: A blog post from May 30 reveals that she was fine after she dove into the stands on the first base side while chasing down a foul ball during the Victoria Series.

South Dione won the Saitama Koshigaya Tournament by blanking East Astraia 1-0. North Reia and West Flora ended in a third place tie after their game ended in a 3-3 tie. Mika Miyahara (DIO) was named Most Impressive Player -- recorded a shutout victory in the 1st Round and a save in the Finals; also recorded the game-winning hit in the Finals game. Mari Yamazaki (REI) was given the JTB Award -- hit a game-tying, three-run double in the 5th inning of the Third Place Playoff Game.

East Astraia played North Reia 7-2 in the Finals game for the Fukuoka Kitakyushu Tiara Cup today and won, 7-2. South Dione beat West Flora 7-6 to take third in the tournament. Yuki Kawabata (AST) was named Most Impressive Player -- she went 4-for-8 with three RBI.
North Reia's Ayami Sato made some news during the tournament by tossing a complete game two-hit shutout over West Flora on Friday.
