A number of players are planning to attend the Twelve-Team Tryouts at Kleenex Stadium on Friday.  These players will include Masao Kida (44), Kanehise Arime (34), Ryo Kawashima (34), Masato Nakamura (34) and Yasuhiro Ichiba (30).  Tasuku Hashimoto (36) is also expected to attend.

27 players (17 pitchers and 10 position players) attended the tryouts.  Information for the first tryout at Hotto Motto Field (11/24/2011) can be found here.

Some updates from Thursday's 12-team tryouts:

• Over 100 scouts/personnel from a total 29 baseball teams (including 12 NPB teams, 5 MLB teams) and about 1,200 fans were in the stands.
• Only two NPB managers attended the tryout: Norifumi Nishimura (LOT) and Akinobu Okada (ORI).
• Former Orix Buffalo/Yokohama Bay Star turned MMA fighter, Katsuaki Furuki (31), took part in the tryouts and also plans on attending the 2nd round of tryouts at QVC Marine on 12/5.
• Former Chunichi Dragon/Yomiuri Giant Shigeki Noguchi (37) topped out at 133km/h.  He is also prepared to retire if he does not get any offers.
• It seems no one submitted offers to Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi (43, Hanshin senryokugai) and Kodai Sakurai (28, Hanshin senryokugai).
• Daisuke Kato (31, Orix senryokugai) topped out at 142km/h.

59 players (37 pitchers and 22 position players) attended the tryouts.

2011 Senryokugi

The first round began on Sunday and will run through to the day after the last game of the regular season (currently 10/26).

The second round will begin on the day after the final game of the Climax Series and go through to the day after the final game of the Nippon Series.

12-Team Tryouts

The first tryout is scheduled to take place on 11/24 at Hotto Motto Kobe

The second tryout is scheduled to take place on 12/5 at QVC Marine

The second round of 12-Team Tryouts took place today at Yahoo Dome.  While 33 players attended the first round of tryouts at Seibu Dome on the 10th, only 17 showed up for today's tryouts at Yahoo Dome.

Information about this round of tryouts is a little scarce, but I'll continue to update this as I find more information.

Notes from the tryout:

J.D. Durbin (SOF) apparently wants to continue playing in Japan (doesn't care where and for which team) and attended the tryout.  His fastball was clocked in the 140km/h range.  Durbin faced four batters and gave up a double and struck out one.

Soichi Fujita (YOM) faced 5 batters and gave up a walk and a hit.

Takahiro Shoda (HAN) went 0-for-4 with a walk (2 strike outs and 2 ground outs).

The Tigers do not have any plans to sign players from the tryouts.

Other notes from the tryouts:

A number of scouts from MLB teams, including the Mets and Rays, were on hand.

Koichi Hori went 2-for-5 and also hit a homer.

Kazuhito Tadano was satisfied with his outing.  He faced four batters, including Masato Sugimoto (grounder to the pitcher) and Motohiro Yoshikawa (strikeout swinging), and did not allow a single hit.

Masahide Kobayashi faced 5 batters and did not allow a hit (he also apparently struck out Kenta Matsusaka on a splitter).  He also topped out at 145km/h.

Takuya Fukata walked four and suffered a leg cramp and Toru Murata gave up 2 hits during his outing.

Katsuhiko Maekawa topped out at 135km/h and retired all four batters he faced on grounders.

Takahiro Shoda went 2-for-4.  During fielding practice, he worked out in the OF and at first.

...The Hanshin Tigers put together a list of about 5-6 players (2 outfielders, 2 infielders, and 2-3 pitchers) that interested them during the tryouts.  The list includes players like former Bay Stars Naoya Okamoto (P), Shigetoshi Yamakita (P),  former Eagle Hisanori Nishitani (INF), and former Dragon Koji Nakamura (OF).

...The Chiba Lotte Marines appear close to signing former Softbank Hawks' Ikusei player, Hiroki Yamada (P).

...The Hiroshima Carp showed an interest in Makoto Imaoka.  As did the Seibu Lions.

...Some other players that were at the tryouts (a total 42 showed up):
