Return of Asia Series put off another year?

by on Jan.27, 2010 @ 10:08 pm, under NPB

The committee for the Asia Series met on the 27th and are leaning towards canceling the event again this season.  Reason?  There just isn't enough time.

While the Nippon Series is set to end by 11/7, that doesn't take in account the 2010 Asia Games, which will run from the 12th to the 27th.  Since the Games are taken fairly seriously in Asia, it would probably be difficult to hold the Series during this time.  There's also a good chance that NPB players, as well as players from other countries, will be taking part in the Games.  It's also highly unlikely the players would agree to holding the Series after the Games, since it would bite into their off-season schedules.

For now, it seems the Series won't be back until next year.

2010 Asia Series to open in Taiwan

by on Nov.14, 2009 @ 6:00 pm, under NPB

The NPB confirmed today that the Asia Series will return next year in Taiwan.

There was some concern about playing the Asia Series in Taiwan after a scandal hit the Chinese Professional Baseball League, but organizers in Taiwan reassured the other countries that the government in Taiwan would still provide their support and that there would be no problem finding sponsors for the event.

A tentative start date has been set for November 10th with the Finals taking place on the 13th.  The leagues will meet against in January to set a firm a date.
