The Yomiuri Giants announced today that they added twenty-six-year-old outfielder Abner Abreu to their seventy-man roster. His uniform number will change from 014 to 33. According to reports by the media, the two sides agreed to a contract worth an estimated five million yen.

The Seibu Lions announced today that they will be parting ways with Michael Bowden (28), Greg Reynolds (29), and Abner Abreu (24). The three players have been notified. They are set to be placed on waivers on Monday.

[12/20/2013] Seibu Lions announce additions of Bowden, Reynolds, Ransom, and Lopez

The Seibu Lions announced today that they came to terms with four new foreign players: Michael Bowden (27), Greg Reynolds (28), Cody Ransom  (37), and Porfirio Lopez (23).

Bowden signed a one-year deal worth an estimated 800,000 US dollars and was assigned the number twenty-six.  He is a candidate to close.  Reynolds signed a one-year deal worth an estimated 800,000 US dollars and was assigned the number forty-two.  He is a candidate for the starting rotation.  Ransom signed a one-year deal worth an estimated 900,000 US dollars and was assigned the number six.  Lopez signed an Ikusei contract worth an estimated 60,000 US dollars and was assigned the number 122.

Randy Williams and Abner Abreu (Ikusei contract) will also be returning next season.

Seibu Lions close to re-signing Ortiz, German, and Williams

Seibu Lions' team director Haruhiko Suzuki spoke to reporters today and said the team was close to re-signing Jose Ortiz (35), Esteban German (34), and Randy Williams (37) to contracts for the 2013 season.

The Lions announced a list of uniform number changes: Ortiz from 14 to 8; Masamitsu Hirano from 19 to 23; Ryo Hayashizaki from 00 to 45; Fumikazu Kimura from 41 to 51; and Michael Nakamura from 69 to 121.  New Ikusei players Anyenil Mendoza and Abner Abreu were assigned the numbers 124 and 125, respectively.  Source: official announcement

Seibu Lions sign Anyenil Mendoza, Abner Abreu to Ikusei contracts

The Seibu Lions announced today that they signed Anyenil Mendoza and Abner Abreu to Ikusei contracts.  The Lions released the following statements from the two players.

Mendoza: "I am thankful for the opportunity to play in Japan next year.  I will do my best to make the seventy-man roster as soon as possible."

Abreu: "I pass the tryout and signed a contract today.  I am thankful.  I would like to get used to playing in Japan as soon as possible and will do my best to make the seventy-man roster."

The Seibu Lions announced that they will be giving Anyenil Mendoza (22), Abner Abreu (23), and Deivy Batista (24) a tryout during their fall Ichi-gun/Ni-gun joint practices that begin on November 1 at Seibu Dome.
