The Aichi University Baseball League Federation held a board of directors meeting and a general meeting in Nagoya today and decided to work on decreasing the number of divisions from five to three.  The first division will remain the same with six teams; the second and third divisions will merge to form a twelve team second division; and the fourth and fifth divisions will merge to form an eleven team third division.

The changes will be effective beginning with the 2012 fall league.

Shigakkan Univ co-ed baseball team to split and compete separately

Shigakkan University has decided to split their co-ed baseball team into men's and women's teams and have them complete separately.  The university was originally an all women's university until 2007.  The baseball team originally got it's start back in 2005 as an all-women's team and joined the Aichi University Baseball League (AUBL).  When the university was opened up to men, so was the team.

This past spring, an all-men's baseball team competed in the AUBL and did well enough to move up to the third division.

The all-men's team will continue to compete in the AUBL while the all-women's team will compete in various other women's only tournament.

In other AUBL news...

...Chukyo Women's University decided to create two squads from their roster of players: a women-only squad and a men-only squad.

From Fall 2006, when the team first entered the AUBL, until this past Spring, CWU competed with only women. But this past Spring, they decided to add men to the roster and the team became co-ed. For the Fall, the team once again decided to try something new and split the roster into two squads.

CWU lost it's first game of the season on Saturday (9/5) against Nagoya City University, using the women's squad, 30-2.  The men's squad fared better and beat NCU 9-3 on Sunday (9/6).
