JABA: Inter-City Baseball Tournament delayed; Industrial League Championships canceled

The Japan Amateur Baseball Association (JABA) announced the following today:

2011 Inter-City Baseball Tournament - the tournament will be delayed until the fall and will likely take place in a different stadium outside of the Tokyo / Tohoku region.

2011 Industrial League Championships and all 10 regional qualifiers - canceled.  This would be a first in tournament history.

2011 All Japan Club Team Tournament - there will be no night games.

JABA will donate 1M yen to rescue and relief efforts; they will also set up donation boxes at all tournaments.

Yoshinobu Suzuki (JABA vice president), on delaying the Inter-City Baseball Tournament - "If you consider indirect damages, a lot of companies were probably affected [by the earthquakes].  There are also teams that won't be able to play.  If we think about the scheduled rolling blackouts and energy use during the summer, it made sense to start [the tournament] in the fall.  And having two tournaments in the fall would be difficult. ... [Regarding the venue,] a lot will depend on what happens with Pro Yakyu.  We would like to try and play the games in a domed stadium."
