Nikkan Sports reports that Bob Keppel may have been tipping his pitches while on the mound this season and it seems he's working with Mizuno to create a new glove that will help deal with that problem.
On Friday, Keppel visited the Mizuno offices in Sapporo to talk about creating a customized glove. The new glove Mizuno is working on for Keppel is based off Naoki Miyanishi's glove and is one size larger than Keppel's current glove. The biggest difference between the gloves: the pocket for the index finger.
According to Nikkan Sports, Keppel was apparently doing something with his index finger that was giving batters a hint as to which pitch he was going to throw. It seems his index finger was also giving away when he was going throw a pick-off to first. The hope is that the pocket will hide the index finger and keep batters and base-runners from guessing Keppel's next move.
