[3/9/2015] Hisashi Takeda (HAM), Brad Eldred (HIR) to miss time with knee injuries

The Nippon Ham Fighters announced on March 9 that Hisashi Takeda had surgery on his left knee and will require about two months for a full recovery. Takeda was diagnosed with an injury to his left medial meniscus after pitching in a practice game against SK (KBO) on February 27.

The Hiroshima Carp announced on March 9 that Brad Eldred will be returning to the United States for additional tests on his right knee. Eldred originally hurt the knee during a practice game against KIA (KBO) on February 26.

  • The Carp would like to sign Eishin Soyogi (34) and Shogo Kimura (34) to contracts for the 2015 season. Deunte Heath (29), Brad Eldred (34), and Rainel Rosario (25) will likely return (Rosario will be in the second year of a four-year deal next season).   • Tomoyuki Sugano threw forty-one pitches in the bullpen on Friday -- fourteen to a standing catcher and twenty-seven to a half-bent catcher.  He had not tossed a session since the 21st due to discomfort in his lower back.  He is slated to pitch three innings in a Ni-gun rehab game on September 4 against Lotte at Giants Stadium. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Ryo Watanabe took a batted ball off his face during practices on the 24th and suffered a nasal bone fracture.  The Fighters announced on Thursday that he was going to have surgery on September 4 to treat the fracture.  He will be able to resume workouts as soon as the swelling goes down.  Watanabe was able to play in a Ni-gun game against Yokohama on the 26th (designated hitter, batted lead-off, went 0-for-4), but opted for surgery because he was having problems with his day-to-day life.   • Brad Eldred suffered an injury during a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on Sunday.  He took a batted ball off the area near his left wrist while playing defense in the 2nd inning.  He was taken to the hospital for tests.   • Itaru Hashimoto (left thigh) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Lotte on Tuesday.  He got the start in center and batted third.  He went 3-for-5 with three RBI.  He told reporters he was at about ninety percent. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/8/2014

The Hiroshima Carp announced on Thursday that they re-signed Brad Eldred (33) to a one-year deal.  According to various reports, his deal is worth an estimated 500,000 US dollars plus incentives and includes a signing bonus of 200,000 US dollars.
