Rakuten Eagles may only bring one of their current foreign players back in 2013

According to Sponichi, the Rakuten Eagles may only bring back Jim Heuser back next season.  They do have some concerns about his slide-step and his off-speed pitches, but feel that he will be able to help the team out in 2013.

Darrell Rasner, Kelvin Jimenez, and Brandon Duckworth have had respectable seasons and may still return, but the team will most likely wait until after the season to decide on their fates.

Luis Terrero and Brett Harper most likely will not return.  Jose Fernandez and Luis Garcia are also questionable.  An unnamed team source told reporters that some in the organization felt that if the foreign position players had done better this year, the team would have gone much farther.

According to Sanspo, the Rakuten Eagles might be interested in 30-year-old INF Brett Harper.

The Eagles don't have much pop from the left side and he could probably help fill that void.

The Yokohama Bay Stars took Brett Harper off the active roster on Friday.  Harper also did not travel with the Ni-gun team to Toda.

Harper's playing time has slowly dwindled over the last few months.  And since 8/28, he was only being used as a DH.  The decision to take Harper off the active roster was made after both sides discussed the matter.

An unnamed club source told reporters, "He said he wasn't a pinch-hitter so it seems a contract for next season will be difficult."

The Bay Stars are expected to make an official announcement at some point in the near future.

UPDATE 7:48am - General coach Tetsuji Okamoto told reporters on Friday that the team would like to rely less on foreign players and more on younger players.

The Yokohama Bay Stars are apparently leaning towards allowing all five of their foreign players (Brent Leach, Clayton Hamilton, Brandon Mann, Brett Harper, and Terrmel Sledge) to return home to US.  It the players are showing signs of emotional distress and would like time to return to their families.

All five players ended their practice sessions in the morning to get their things together.  They will most likely leave within the next couple of days.

UPDATE @ 8:20pm - the players will probably leave later tonight and will return on the 22nd.
