The Orix Buffaloes will most likely part ways with Wily Mo Pena (32). There was reportedly over a 100 million yen difference between what Orix was offering and what Pena wanted. The slugger was also said to be looking for a multi-year deal. The Rakuten Eagles are interested in Pena. The Buffaloes are looking into Tony Blanco (34) as a possible replacement. [1/8/2014] Rakuten Eagles announce Brian Falkenborg signing, Andruw Jones extension

The Rakuten Eagles announced today that they came to terms with Brian Falkenborg (35) and signed Andruw Jones (36) to an extension.

According to the reports, the Eagles signed Falkenborg to a one-year deal worth an estimated 200 million yen (includes signing bonus).  He has been assigned the number forty.  The Jones extension is a one-year deal worth an estimated 400 million yen (includes incentives).

According to at least two reports, the Rakuten Eagles have come to terms with Brian Falkenborg (35).  Nikkan Sports is also reporting that the Eagles have finalized a contract extension with Andruw Jones (36).  An announcement about both deals are expected within the next couple of days.

According to a report by Sponichi, the Rakuten Eagles are close to finalizing a deal with Brian Falkenborg (35), pending the results of a physical.  Assuming no issues, they could make an announcement some time early next year.  The Eagles see Falkenborg as a possible closer candidate.

Yakult Swallows

Ryoji Aikawa would like to stay with the Swallows, but only if they plan on using him.  Otherwise, he will seriously consider exercising his FA option.

Masanori Ishikawa and Takehiko Oshimoto can also become free agents at the end of the season and are expected to sit down with the Swallows before making any decisions.

Softbank Hawks

Brian Falkenborg left for the US today.  Before leaving, he told reporters he hoped to return to Fukuoka next season, but was also open to playing for another team, if it came to that.

According to a report by Daily Sports, the Softbank Hawks will likely part ways with pitchers Yao-Hsun Yang (30) and Vicente Padilla (36).  There is also a good chance Brian Falkenborg (35) and Wily Mo Pena (31) will not return to Softbank next year, although the organization might wait to see what else is available on the market before finalizing any decisions.

Bryan LaHair (30), Edison Barrios (24), and Paul Oseguera (29) will likely return next season.

Yomiuri Giants

Ryosuke Miyaguni developed a pain near his right knee and is currently working out separately from the rest of the Ni-gun players.  There is no timetable for when he might be able to return to regular workouts.

Chunichi Dragons

The Dragons announced today that Hirokazu Ibata had surgery on his right ankle on Friday.  There were no complications during the procedure.  He will be discharged from the hospital on the 7th and will need about two months before he can start jogging.

Ibata will also have surgery on his right elbow later this month on 12th.

Doala (left middle finger) successfully turned a backflip (with a twist) after the seventh inning of tonight's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.

Before the game: "The finger is not completely healed, but I got the green light from the doctor because this is the last game of the season.  I am not at my best, but I will do what I can."

After turning the backflip: "I am so happy!  I am glad I was able to nail it for [Takeshi] Yamasaki.  I am glad I was able to add in a twist."

Softbank Hawks

Brian Falkenborg was taken off the active roster on Friday with tightness in his neck and back.

"He cannot throw the ball because of pain in his neck and back, so we sent him back to Fukuoka," pitching coach Ikuo Takayama said.

Rakuten Eagles

Manabu Mima was examined at the hospital on Friday after he complained of discomfort in his right elbow.  He was diagnosed with inflammation in the elbow and taken off the active roster today.  He will be allowed to play catch once the swelling goes down.  The Eagles are uncertain if he will be ready for the start of the Final Stage of the Climax Series.

Kenta Maeda was not at Tokyo Dome on Sunday.  He stayed back at the team hotel and rested.  He no longer has a fever.

Nyjer Morgan was examined at a hospital in Yokohama on Friday and diagnosed with a bruise on his right wrist.  He was taken off the active roster on Saturday.

Brian Falkenborg was taken off the active roster on Sunday with back pain.  He first complained of back problems after his outing against Rakuten at Kleenex Stadium on the 19th.  He was taken off the active roster today because his condition was not improving.  He will be examined at a hospital in Fukuoka on the 24th.
