Rakuten Eagles

  • Takahiro Norimoto set a new franchise record on Friday by recording his seventh shutout of the season. The previous record of six was set by Masahiro Tanaka in 2009. Norimoto is the first pitcher in the NPB to notch seven shutouts in a season since Masaki Saito recorded seven in 1989. The last Pacific League pitcher to record seven or more shutouts in a season was Keiji Suzuki with eight in 1978. Source: Sponichi 9/19/2014

  • Lotte opened a special retirement section for Tomoya Satozaki at the official team web site. They also provided additional details Satozaki's retirement ceremony events on September 28. Source: official announcement
  • The Marines are reportedly getting ready to offer thirty-nine-year-old infielder Tadahito Iguchi a three-year deal worth an estimated total 400 to 500 million yen. Source: Sports Hochi 9/19/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Kenta Imamiya notched his sixtieth sac hit of the season on Thursday and became the first player in NPB history to record sixty or more sac hits in more than one season. Imamiya set a Pacific League record last year with sixty-two sac hits. Source: Nikkan Sports 9/19/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • The Fighters have informally decided to make Shohei Otani their opening pitcher for the First Stage of the Climax Series (assuming they make it that far). Until then, he will most likely get two more starts during the regular season: on the 21st against Rakuten at kobo Stadium and during a five-game stretch at Sapporo Dome that begins on the 27th. He could get a tune-up outing during the Phoenix League that begins on October 6. The First Stage of the Climax Series is scheduled to start on October 11. Source: Daily Sports 9/19/2014 ... If Otani starts game one of the First Stage of the Climax Series, it would allow him to start either game three or four of the Final Stage of the Climax Series on five or six days of rest. [9/19/2014] Softbank clinches first in Western league, to face Lotte at Farm Championship

The Softbank Hawks clinched first in the Western League today by beating the Chunichi Dragons 8-1. They were also assisted by a Hiroshima Carp loss.

The Hawks will face the Chiba Lotte Marines at the Farm Championships on October 4 at Sun Marine Stadium Miyazaki.

  • Andruw Jones became the fourth player in NPB history to record 100 or more walks in at least two consecutive seasons. The other three players: Sadaharu Oh (1963-1978), Hiromitsu Ochiai (1985-1986), and Hideki Matsui (1997-1998, 2000-2002). Source: Sponichi 9/18/2014

The last player in the NPB over forty-two to record a pinch-hit home run was Tomoaki Kanemoto at forty-four years and five months on September 26, 2012; the last player in the Pacific League over forty-two to record a pinch-hit home run was Yasunori Oshima at forty-three years and eight months on June 25, 1994. Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles announced that Zach Lutz returned to the United States for tests on his right thumb. There is no timetable for his return. Lutz suffered a fracture in his right thumb when he was hit by a pitch on July 21. He played in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 4th, but re-injured the thumb. Lutz asked the Eagles if he could return to the US for additional tests because the swelling was not going away. Seibu Lions

  • The Fighters have four players with twenty or more stolen bases this year (through Monday): Haruki Nishikawa with thirty-seven, Takuya Nakashima with twenty-five, Keiji Obiki with twenty-one, and Dai-Kang Yoh with twenty. The Fighters have carried four players with at least twenty stolen bases two other times in franchise history: 1948 (Jiro Kanayama with thirty-five, Makoto Kozuru with twenty-seven, Hiroshi Oshita with twenty-six, and Eikichi Nagamochi with twenty), and 1962 (Shoichi Busujima with twenty-seven, Katsutoyo Yoshida with twenty-six, Akio Saionji with twenty-four, and Isao Harimoto with twenty-three). The 2011 Softbank Hawks were the last team in the Pacific League with four players that had twenty or more stolen bases: Yuichi Honda with sixty, Munenori Kawasaki with thirty-one, Nobuhiro Matsuda with twenty-seven, and Shuhei Fukuda with twenty-two.
