Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles recorded their second straight walk-off victory on Tuesday. It was the fourth time they won two consecutive games on walk-offs in franchise history, first since 2012 (August 25, 26). Source: Sports Hochi 9/10/2014

Seibu Lions

Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Kazuya Fukuura recorded the twelfth walk-off (includes hits, walks, HBP, sac flies, ground outs) of his career. Twelve walk-offs is good for a fourth place tie with Yoshihiro Nakata, Yasuo Fujii, Yukio Tanaka, Norihiro Nakamura, Nobuhiko Matsunaka, and Kazuo Matsui. Katsuya Nomura is in first with twenty, Yoshinori Hirose in is in second with fifteen, and Kazuhiro Kiyohara is in third with thirteen. Note - Tuesday's list was for walk-off hits.   • Naoya Masuda became the thirty-eighth player in NPB history (fifth in franchise history, first since Ken Yamasaki in 2005) to record a victory on one pitch on Tuesday. Four players have recorded one-pitch victories this season.   • The Buffaloes are planning to offer forty-one-year-old Yoshitomo Tani a contract for the 2015 season. He was slowed down by a left foot injury during spring camp and later hurt his right shoulder. Team officials spoke to Tani in August and confirmed his desire to continue playing. Rakuten Eagles

  • Takaaki Yokoyama will make the first start of his Ichi-gun career on Wednesday against the Orix Buffaloes at kobo Stadium. He threw about thirty pitches in the bullpen on Tuesday in preparation for the start. Source: Nikkan Sports 9/9/2014, Sponichi 9/9/2014
  • Andruw Jones hit a home run against the Orix Buffaloes on Monday and became just the second foreign player in franchise history to record at least twenty home runs in two consecutive seasons since Jose Fernandez (2006, 2007). Source: Sports Hochi 9/9/2014
  • Yuki Matsui became the eighth pitcher out of high school since 1966 to record 100 or more strikeouts in their first season. The other seven: Toshiaki Moriyasu (RHP) with 160 strikeouts in 1966, Keishi Suzuki (LHP) with 160 strikeouts in 1966, Tsuneo Horiuchi (RHP) with 117 strikeouts in 1966, Yutaka Enatsu (LHP) with 225 in 1967, Daisuke Matsuzaka (RHP) with 151 in 1999, Masahiro Tanaka (RHP) with 196 in 2007, and Shintaro Fujinami (RHP) with 125 in 2013.   • Kazuo Matsui recorded the fifth walk-off home run of his career on Monday, first since September 24, 2012. It was also his second walk-off hit of the season, eleventh of his career, and first since August 31. The eleven walk-off hits are good for a sixth place tie with Yukio Tanaka in Pacific League history. Rakunten Eagles

  • Yuki Matsui topped 100 strikeouts this season during his start on Monday against the Orix Buffaloes and became the first pitcher out of high school in franchise history to accomplish the feat in his first year since Masahiro Tanaka in 2007. Source: Sponichi 9/8/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani is the first player out of high school to reach double figures in home runs in one season within his first two years since Hideki Matsui (eleven in his first year in 1993, twenty in his second year in 1994). The last player to accomplish the feat in franchise history was Isao Harimoto (thirteen in his first year in 1959 and sixteen in his second year in 1960). Source: Sanspo 9/8/2014 ... Adjustments were made to Otani's bat during the off-season. He wanted a little more weight in the barrel. The length of the bat remained the same at 33.5 inches, but the weight dropped from 915 to 905 grams. The thickest part of the bat was made 0.3 millimeters thicker and the thinnest part (bat handle) 0.5 millimeters thinner. Otani went from a white to a black bat in late-April. He has bats made of maple, white ash, and Japanese ash and uses them according to how he feels. Source: Sponichi 9/8/2014 ...   • Senichi Hoshino is expected to return next season for his fifth year as manager of the Eagles. Source: Sports Hochi 9/7/2014 ... Team president Yozo Tachibana told reporters on Sunday that they signed a multi-year deal with Hoshino and that things were proceeding according to the contract.
