  • Shohei Otani has been averaging one game as a pitcher and two games as a position player so far this season because of the light schedule. The team will begin playing six games a week in May and Hideki Kuriyama is thinking about expanding Otani's workload by one game as a position player each week. That could mean starts as a pitcher on Tuesday and starts as a position player on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Source: Daily Sports 4/21/2015 ... According to Nikkan Sports, Kuriyama is planning to mix and match starts on six days of rest and starts on seven or more days of rest, depending on Otani's condition. He got the start at designated hitter in an Ichi-gun game against Nippon Ham later in the day and went 2-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • Chun-Lin Kuo was taken off the active roster on April 21 and sent down to Ni-gun to work on his mechanics. Kuo struggled in his last two starts and failed to make it past the 3rd inning on both occasions. Source: Daily Sports 4/21/2015

  • Ni-gun batting coach Shinji Shimoyama will be re-assigned to Ichi-gun on April 21. Ichi-gun batting coach Shinichi Sato will be sent down to Ni-gun. Source: Daily Sports 4/19/2015

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani picked up the third shutout victory of his career on April 19. His first two shutout victories: against Seibu on May 13, 2014 and against Orix on September 13, 2014. Otani has not allowed a run over his last twenty-two innings of work. He has also won his first four games of the season, beginning with an opening day start. The last pitcher to get an opening day start and win his first four games of the season was Yomiuri's Tetsuya Utsumi in 2010. Only three opening day pitchers have won their first four or more games in franchise history: Yasuo Yonekawa, 4-0 in four games in 1951; Naoki Takahashi, 6-0 in six games in 1979; and Yukihiro Nishizaki, 5-0 in five games in 1989.   • At nineteen years and eight months, Tomoya Mori became the first player under twenty to hit two home runs in a game since Ginjiro Sumitani at eighteen years and eight months on March 29, 2006. Mori hit his second home run off Rakuten's Takashi Saito. At forty-five years and two months, Saito and Mori are twenty-five years and six months apart in age. There have only been two other cases where more years have separated a batter and pitcher: twenty-six years and three months when Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (twenty years and five months) hit a home run off Masahiro Yamamoto (forty-six years and eight months) on May 6, 2012; and twenty-five years and eight months when Hayato Sakamoto (twenty years and three months) hit a home run off Kimiyasu Kudo (forty-five years and eleven months) on April 8, 2009.
