The Nippon Ham Fighters announced that they reached an agreement with twenty-nine-year-old pitcher Chris Martin.
The Fighters released the following statement from Martin:
I am very please to officially become a part of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters organization. I want to thank the Fighters organization for the wonderful opportunity. I will do my best to meet the expectations of the Fighters and the fans next season by working hard during the off-season. I am ready to give what I have to help the team win a pennant and the Nippon Series.

According to Sanspo, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal worth eighty million yen plus incentives.

The New York Yankees sold Martin's rights to the Fighters for 750,000 US dollars.
SportsNets' Ben Nicholson-Smith is reporting Martin's contract is worth 1.7 million US dollars (about 200 million yen) over two years with 300,000 US dollars (about thirty-six million yen) in bonuses.
