[8/22/2014] Injury Report: Hisayoshi Chono (Yomiuri), Nobuhiro Matsuda (Softbank)

Yomiuri Giants

  • Hisayoshi Chono was examined at a hospital on Friday and diagnosed with a joint contusion in his right knee. Chono suffered the injury while making a leaping catch during Thursday's game against the Yakult Swallows. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/22/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Ryoma Matsuda (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Softbank on Wednesday.  He entered the game in the 9th and gave up a run on two hits over an inning of work.  He faced four hitters, walked none, struck out one, and topped out at 152km/h.  If things continue to go smoothly, he could make the active roster in time for the Yomiuri series that begins on the 26th at Tokyo Dome.   • Daiki Enokida (left shoulder) also pitched in the Ni-gun Softbank on Wednesday.  It was his first rehab game.  He entered the game in the 8th and did not allow a run or a hit over an inning of work.  He faced three hitters, threw eight pitches, and topped out at 139km/h. Softbank Hawks

  • Daiki Enokida (left shoulder) played catch at a distance of about twenty meters on Monday.  He expanded the distance to roughly forty meters on Tuesday. Source: Sanspo 8/13/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Shuhei Fukuda was diagnosed with an injury near his right knee (右大腿骨外側膝蓋溝軟骨損傷).  He will undergo debridement surgery at a hospital in Fukuoka on Friday.  He will remain in the hospital for a week and will require about six months for a full recovery. Orix Buffaloes

  • Juan Miranda (lower back) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  He was the starting designated hitter against Yomiuri and batted third.  He went 0-for-2.  He could rejoin the active roster on Friday. Yomiuri Giants

  • Yoshiyuki Kamei was taken off the active roster on Friday.  He hurt his left leg while running the bases during Thursday's game against the Yokohama Bay Stars.  He was examined at a hospital on Friday and diagnosed with a mild strain in his left thigh.  He will require two to the three weeks for a full recovery. Hiroshima Carp

  • Kosuke Tanaka was removed from Friday's game against Hanshin after he took a batted ball off his face.  The incident took place in the 3rd inning with runners on first and second.  Mauro Gomez hit a ball that took a bad hop and struck Tanaka in the face.  The ball rolled out toward foul territory and both runners scored.  Tanaka was conscious and walking around, but was bleeding from his mouth.   • Yoshiyuki Kamei hurt his left leg while trying to cross the plate in the 6th inning.  He was removed on defense after the inning.  Daisuke Fujimura hurt his right side when he grounded out to the pitcher during a pinch-hit at bat in the 5th.  Both players will be examined on Friday. Chunichi Dragons

  • If Kazuhiro Wada (right scaphoid bone) needs surgery, he will most likely miss the rest of the season.  If he can get by on rehab, he might be able to make it back to the active roster before the end of the season. Yakult Swallows

  • Yoshinori Sato (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Wednesday.  He pitched five innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on three hits and four walks.  He faced twenty-one hitters, threw seventy-four pitches, and struck out two.  He also surrendered a two-run home run to Tomoya Inzen in the 1st inning.  He got the win, his first since September 3, 2011. Softbank Hawks

  • The brace on Nobuhiro Matsuda's right index finger was removed during an examination at a Fukuoka hospital on the 5th.  He should be able to resume throwing in about a week.  He could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game in around two weeks. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/7/2014

5th round draft pick Shoya Yamamoto tossed his second bullpen on Wednesday.  Ikusei Fumihito Haraguchi caught the session.  He stood for the first four pitches and squatted for the rest.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka wants to do more running on the base paths this season.  He did not get the chance to run very often last year because coaches were concerned about his left knee.  It forced some of the hitters behind him to sacrifice their at bats.  He feels it will be important for him to regain trust and confidence among the coaches early on by showing that he can run at full speed (for stealing and for hit-and-run plays).

Daisuke Nakai took outdoor batting practice on Friday for the first time since he hurt his left knee.  Depending on how things go, he could play a rehab game in early September.

Hanshin Tigers

Ryota Imanari and Hayata Ito are a little banged up after today's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  Imanari hurt his left leg while trying to score from first on a double to center by Matt Murton in the top of the 9th.  He was removed from the game on defense in the bottom-half of the inning.  Ito was replaced by a pinch-runner after he took an HBP off the area near his right knee in the 7th.

"They both suffered bruises.  Nothing serious," said Yutaka Wada to reporters after the game.

Daiki Enokida pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 20th and reportedly left the game a little early because of discomfort in his left elbow.  He joined the Ichi-gun team on Friday and told reporters he was fine.  He is currently scheduled to start a game against the Yomiuri Giants at Tokyo Dome on the 27th.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata took an HBP off the back of his left hand during his at bat in the first inning of tonight's game against the Rakuten Eagles.  He remained in the game until he was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 2nd inning.  He was taken to a hospital for an examination and was diagnosed with a fissure fracture in the fifth metacarpal of his left hand.  The hand/finger will have to be immobilized for three weeks.  He will be taken off the active roster on Thursday and will be re-evaluated in Sapporo.

Rakuten Eagles

Manabu Mima took a batted ball off the left side of his neck in the 4th inning of tonight's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  He was removed from the game and taken to a hospital in Sendai for an evaluation.  He was diagnosed with a bruise (no damage to the bones) -- there is swelling and he is not able to turn his neck to the side.

Ryo Hijirisawa felt pain his left heel while running the bases during Tuesday's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters.  There is swelling in the heel from fluid build-up.  Hijirisawa is unable to walk on it.  He was taken off the active roster today because it was not something that was going to get better within the next four to five days.

Daiki Enokida was originally taken off the active roster because of discomfort in his left elbow.  An examination later revealed no problems.  He threw thirty pitches in the bullpen on Sunday for the first time since he was taken off the active roster.  He could pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 17th against Softbank.

Yuya Kubo (reconstructive surgery on right elbow in May 2012) could return to the active roster some time next month.  He has already pitched in four Ni-gun rehab games.

Junji Ogawa told reporters on Monday that Wladimir Balentien (lower back pain) should be ok to return to the starting line-up today.

Daiki Enokida was reportedly taken off the active roster on Monday with discomfort in his left elbow.  According to reports, the discomfort is in the same elbow he had surgery on in September 2012.

The Tigers will most likely limit Tsuyoshi Nishioka's playing time because of his nagging left knee pain.

Kosuke Fukudome (left knee) is scheduled to take some situational batting practice at Naruohama when the Ni-gun teams head out for a three-game road trip that begins on August 2.  If Fukudome does not experience any problems, he could play in his first rehab game during a three-game series against the Ni-gun Softbank Hawks at Naruohama that begins on August 6.  He will most likely begin as a designated hitter.
