Nobeoka Gakuen High School informed the media on Thursday that a second-year student on their baseball team assaulted a first-year teammate and broke his nose last October.  The school's baseball team has been issued a stern warning by the Japan High School Baseball Federation.

According to school officials, in early-October last year, during indoor practices, a second-year student struck a first-year teammate in the back of the head a  number of times with the handle of a bat and then pushed him down.  The incident came to light after parents of the first-year teammate approached the school on October 18.

The second-year student told school officials that he was unhappy with the first-year teammate's greeting and was trying to teach him the proper method, but lost his temper when the younger student started pouting.   School officials say the second-year student feels remorse for what he did.

Nobeoka Police filed papers with the prosecutor's office against the second-year student on November 20, 2013.  The case was referred to Family Court on November 29.  The first-year student has since transferred to a different school.

Fukuoka Police arrested former Softbank Hawk Daiki Mizoguchi (29) on Thursday on suspicions of violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.

Mizoguchi is suspected of packing a knife with a sixteen centimeter long blade into a bag on a car that was found at a laundromat parking lot in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu, at around 9:15pm on the 23rd.  He reportedly told police that he had that knife because he was planning to commit suicide.

Mizoguchi was drafted by the Daiei Hawks in 2002.  He broke curfew on two separate occasions during his first year and suffered right leg injuries that required surgery -- the first time he got into a car accident while breaking curfew and the second time he broke his leg when he tried to sneak out of the team dormitory by jumping out of the building from the second floor.  He was senryokugai'ed after the 2005 season and retired.
