Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice

Tuesday

  • Masahiro Tanaka threw forty pitches in the bullpen. (Sanspo)

===

Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi likely secured a spot in the starting rotation with his outing against the Chiba Lotte Marines today: 6 IP, 19 BF, 71 NP, 1 H, 1 HR, 1 SO, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 ER.

===

On Tuesday, Masahiro Tanaka started with a game of catch where the distance was incrementally increased to about sixty meters (eighty-five throws).  After ending the session and discussing things with the conditioning director, Tanaka headed to the bullpen to toss a session.

===

Daisuke Kato could end up finding himself in the starting rotation depending how things work out with the other starters.

Keiji Uezono worked out at Kleenex Stadium today.  The last time Uezono was at the stadium was for his press conference after joining the team in a trade with the Hanshin Tigers.

Senichi Hoshino confirmed to reporters today that Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi will be given an invite to/tryout during spring camp.

On Thursday, Hoshino told reporters he thought the Yomiuri Giants did too much during the off-season and that they were on their way to becoming unpopular again.  He also said all the upgrades made the coaches seem like they were not capable of developing talent.

===

Daisuke Kato threw his knuckle-curve, fork, slider, and cutter during his 25-pitch bullpen session on Thursday.

===

Hayato Kawaguchi worked out at Kleenex Stadium on Thursday.  Since fall camp last year, Kawaguchi has been working out about two hours a day.  That also includes about an hour's worth of running.

===

The Eagles will begin accepting applications for fans wanting to enroll in the 1001 (Senichi) Club on January 22.

Workouts for the 2011 draft class today included running and indoor fielding practice in the morning; and BP and weight training in the afternoon.

===

Daisuke Kato tossed 25 pitches in the bullpen today (standing catcher).

===

Takashi Kawai's workouts at Kleenex Stadium on Wednesday included fielding practice and running.

Senichi Hoshino does not think the team has enough advance scouts, particularly during inter-league play -- they carried four advance scouts last season, only two of which were actually sent out to check on opponents in advance.  He also realizes payroll can not easily be increased and would like some of their scouts to double as advance scouts when they have the extra time -- scout the high school and college ranks during the day and work as advance scouts at night.

It seems this could just be limited to the spring when scout workloads tend to be on the light side.

FYI: the Eagles have 12 scouts in all
