Don Nomura spoke at a seminar at Waseda on Monday and talked a little more about what happened during Hisashi Iwakuma's negotiation talks with the Oakland A's.
With only 1 year left before international FA, we didn't have much leverage. If they're going to take advantage of that, then it's better to stay [in Japan]. From here on out, current system won't be good for players with 1 year left before international FA.
Nomura also apparently said that he was looking for a 3-year deal worth US$24M plus incentives.
Regarding salary arbitration, Nomura said the JPBPA needed to work harder to standardize the ways NPB teams assessed their players.
