Chunichi Dragons

Motonobu Tanishige took a pitched ball off his right hand when swinging the bat in the top of the 6th inning.  He remained in the game for the bottom-half of the inning, but was replaced on defense by Masato Matsui in the bottom of the 7th.  There are no plans of Tanishige going to the hospital at this time.  He was diagnosed with a bruise on the back of his hand.  He is considered day-to-day.

Hector Luna (left knee) played in another Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Saturday.  He started at third and batted fourth.  He went 1-for-2 with a strikeout and an HBP.  He traveled to Yokohama after the game to meet up with the Ichi-gun team.

Hanshin Tigers

Kosuke Fukudome (left knee) participated in situational batting practice at Naruohama today.  He got seven trips to the plate and went 4-for-7 with two walks.  He faced Kazuya Takamiya and Ken Nishimura.

Kazuya Fujita hurt his right side during a game against Seibu on July 30.  He is playing right now, but he is not quite at one-hundred percent.

Chiba Lotte Marines hold press conference to announce G.G. Sato signing

The Chiba Lotte Marines held a press conference today to announce the addition of G.G. Sato (34).  Sato reportedly signed a deal worth an estimated ten million yen.  He was also assigned the number forty-eight.

Chiba Lotte Marines: G.G. Sato passes tryout, not currently interested in Hiroyuki Kobayashi

The Chiba Lotte Marines announced today that G.G. Sato (34) passed his tryout with the team.

The Marines release the following statement from Sato:

"I am very happy to hear that I passed by tryout.  I would like to start over with the team managed by Tsutumo Ito.  I want to try and help this team.  I feel lucky to have this chance to play in Chiba, where I grew up.  I will do my best."

Hiroyuki Kobayashi also took a tryout with the team, but the Marines were not impressed and decided to pass on him.

Chiba Lotte Marines to give G.G. Sato, Takahiro Saeki, Hiroyuki Kobayashi tryouts during fall camp

The Chiba Lotte Marines are planning to give G.G. Sato (34) and Takahiro Saeki (42) a tryout during the second block of fall camp, which begins on November 6.

Sato spent a large part of the year playing baseball in Italy before joining the ROKI TECHO Baseball Club (Industrial League) in September.  Saeki was released by Chunichi last year and has been looking for an opportunity to play.

The latest on Daisuke Matsuzaka (BOS), from ESPN.com's Joe McDonald:

The right-hander was at Fenway Park on Wednesday and deemed himself healthy and ready to pitch for the Red Sox. He could be in line to start against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, but the Red Sox have provided no official word.

"After my last start down in Pawtucket, I told [manager] Bobby [Valentine] and [pitching coach] Randy [Niemann] that I felt good and I was ready," Matsuzaka said. "I haven't spoken with them this time around, but I'll be speaking to them soon, and I think a decision will be made then."

... "It's the first time I threw deep into a game in a while, and my body feels fine today," he said.

Valentine mentioned during his daily pregame news conference that Dice-K has a sore calf, which the pitcher said he's not worried about.

Yu Darvish (TEX) was scratched from his next start because of tightness in his right quad.  From the Star-Telegram's Jeff Wilson:

The Rangers have decided to skip Yu Darvish's next start Thrusday and push him back to Tuesday after the right-handed complained of tightness in his right quadriceps during his between-starts bullpen session.

... Darvish issued a statement, saying that he doesn't not consider himself to be injured. He said that he and the coaching staff determined a few extra days of rest was the best course of action. Darvish first felt discomfort Tuesday toward the end of his bullpen session.

Hiroki Kuroda's (NYY) workouts on Thursday included weight training and fielding practice.  Said Kuroda, "I have good balance with my delivery so I do not feel tired.  I also do not feel any bad tightness either."

Kuroda is expected to throw around one hundred pitches during his next outing on April 2.

Former Seibu Lion G.G. Sato heading to Italy

According to Sanspo, G.G. Sato will be playing baseball in Italy next year after signing a contract with Fortitudo Bologna.  The team has already posted an announcement at their official website.

Senryokugai: Seibu Lions’ G.G. Sato and Yoshihito Ishii

The media learned on Thursday that G.G. Sato (33) and Yoshihito Ishii (33) were likely no longer a part of the team's plans in 2012.  All healthy Ni-gun players are scheduled to participate in the Phoenix League that begins on the 10th, but neither player will be going.

Formal notices haven't been given but are expected as early as the 9th.  Both are hoping to continue playing next season.

Seibu Lions News and Notes: November 20, 2010

Spring practice for the Seibu Stadium 2 group ended on Friday (as did fall camp in Miyazaki).

G.G. Sato continued his rehab on Friday and took some grounders in the indoor training facilities at Seibu Stadium 2.  Said Sato, "My right elbow is fine, I can throw [ok].  What's left is my left shoulder when I'm swinging the bat.  But then I was told my shoulder was going to take some time, so it's something I expected."

The Lions are planning on displaying some Hisanobu Watanabe draft day memorabilia during Fan Appreciation Day.  Fans will be able to take a look at things like the actual draft pick box and the winning ticket Watanabe drew.
