[12/11/2015] Samurai Japan, Haarlem Baseball Week

The Tokyo Big 6 Baseball League is planning to send a team of players to next year's Haarlem Baseball Week. The manager will be selected from the team that wins the spring league.

Managers from all Samurai Japan levels met during a management committee meeting on December 4. They confirmed that all levels of the organization will continue their efforts to put together the best teams possible. Hiroki Kokubo, top team manager, also confirmed the possibility of including amateur players and active coaches to the top team for upcoming tournaments. There were two active coaches on the staff for the Premier 12 this year: Seibu's Hiroshi Narahara and Yomiuri's Takayuki Onishi.

The amateur level of Samurai Japan is hoping to participate in international tournaments that are scheduled after the Inter-City Baseball Tournament.

The Samurai Japan University team played a practice game against the United States on Tuesday at Buck Hardee Field in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Seigo Yada recorded three of Japan's six hits.

The Samurai Japan University team played a practice game against the United States on Monday at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina.  A fielding error in the bottom of the 6th led to four unearned runs that gave Japan a four run lead.

The Samurai Japan University team played a practice game against the United States on Sunday at Finch Field in Thomasville, North Carolina and lost 10-0.  Sachiya Yamasaki started the game for Japan and gave up six runs over two innings.  Shoji Kitamura and Shogo Nakamura were responsible for the team's two hits.

[6/22/2014] National University Team’s 24-man Roster Released

The national university team's final 24-man rosters were unveiled by the All Japan University Baseball Federation on Sunday.  The roster will be competing at Haarlem Baseball Week in July.  Shuhei Fukuda was named team captain.

Haarlem Baseball Week: Japan pounds the US, 16-6, on final day

On the final day of the tournament (7/18), Japan pounded the United States for 16 runs and finished in third place with a 3-5 record.

Koki Uchiyama, Yukihiro Mishima, and Ryota Kitamura each had 2 hits a piece.  Mishima led the offensive attack with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBI.  Uchiyama had a walk, a triple, 3 runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases.  Japan also sent 11 batters to the plate in the 8th inning.

Yusuke Matsubayashi started the game for Japan and got the win.  He went 6 deep and allowed 2 runs (both earned) on 5 hits and walks.  Matsubayashi also struck out one.  Yoshito Uramoto (0.2 IP, 3 ER), Naoki Shirahama (0.1 IP, 0 ER) and Yudai Ono (1.0 IP, 1 ER) also made appearances in the final game of the tournament.

Ono finished out the tournament leading Japan with 19.1 innings under his belt.  He also gave up 12 runs (10 earned) on 25 hits, 6 walks, and 10 strikeouts.

Haarlem Baseball Week: Japan can’t hold on against the Netherlands

Japan managed to score 3 runs in the 6th and a run  in the 8th to tie the game at 8 and force extra innings.  In the top of the 10th, Japan managed to scratch a run across the plate on an error and take a 9-8.  But Tatsuya Masuda couldn't hold down the Netherlands and allowed two runs to score (Haarlem rules, extra inning games begin with runners on first and second).

Tsyoshi Matsushita started the game for Japan and gave up 6 runs (all earned) over 2.2 innings of work.  Naoki Shirahama followed by allowed 2 runs (both earned) over 2.1 innings of work.  And finally Masuda rounded out the staff used in the game -- 2 runs, none earned, over 4.1 innings of work.

Katsumichi Noguchi went 3-for-5 with a double and 2 run scored.  Daisuke Ikemoto and Yukihiro Mishima both drove in two runs a piece, with Ikemoto goint 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

The Netherlands clinched first place with the victory.

Haarlem Baseball Week: Japan loses second game against Chinese Taipei

Japan dropped their second game against Chinese Taipei and now have a 2-4 record.

Yoshito Uramoto started the game for Japan and took the loss.  He allowed three runs (all earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks over 6.1 innings of work.  Koji Hirose relieved Uramoto in the 7th inning but could not put out the fire and gave up 2 runs before finally ending the inning.  Masayuki Harada and Shota Kizu combined to toss 2 shutout inning over the remainder of the game.

Takashi Tsubokura did the heavy lifting for Japan, going 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.
