Hirokazu Sawamura has moved away from heavy lifting because he feels it has not helped him on the field as a pitcher the last three years.  He knows the weights helped him build a solid foundation, but past that, he is no longer certain if it is something he needs to continue doing to find success.  He also realizes this is an important year and wants to mix things up and try something new.

There is a good chance that Daisuke Nakai will get looks in the outfield with the addition of Hirokazu Ibata and Yasuyuki Kataoka.  Nakai will most likely be assigned to Ni-gun spring camp.

Up to seven players could end up competing for the two middle infield positions: Ibata, Kataoka, Sakamoto, Terauchi, Nakai, Daisuke Fujimura, and Soichiro Tateoka.

The Giants are planning to add former Hiroshima Carp infielder Tsubasa Nakatani to their staff as a bullpen catcher.  Nakatani was primarily a second baseman when he actively played and has no experience catching.  He is currently learning the ropes.  He was selected for his personality.

The media learned that Shigeo Nagashima resigned from the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's Special Selection Committee because he wanted to give younger people a chance at the position.

Nagashima is scheduled to drop by Ichi-gun spring camp on the 11th and 12th.
