Rakuten Eagles

  • Ginji (lower back) worked out at the Ni-gun facilities in Sendai on Wednesday.  He resumed soft-toss batting practice a few days ago.  There is still no timetable on when he will play his first rehab game. Source: Sponichi 6/4/2014

Seibu Lions

  • The Lions announced on Tuesday that tests conducted on Hideto Asamura's left knee on Monday did not reveal any problems. Source: Sanspo 6/4/2014 ... Softbank Hawks

  • Hayato Terahara (right knee) began his rehab at the Saitozaki facilities on Wednesday.  His day included trunk strengthening exercises and getting treatment for the knee.  He will require the use of crutches for about a week.  His goal right now is to be ready to pitch during spring camp next year.   • Seiichi Uchikawa (right gluteus maximus) resumed soft-toss batting practice on Tuesday.  He swung the bat at about eighty percent.  He hopes to be running sprints before the end of the week.  He would like to be ready on defense as well, but that may not be a top priority.   • Toru Hosokawa was taken off the active roster on Wednesday after he fouled a ball off his left knee on Tuesday.  He is currently unable to squat. Source: Sponichi 6/4/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani hurt his left ankle when he slid into home plate on a close play in the 5th inning of Wednesday's game against Hiroshima.  He was removed from the game and the ankle was treated with ice.   He was also examined by the team doctor and diagnosed with a mild sprain in a lateral ankle ligament.   • Atsunori Inaba (left knee) could play in his first Ni-gun rehab game during an upcoming three-game series against Yomiuri that begins on the 10th.  He took thirty-nine swings during batting practice with the Ichi-gun team on Tuesday and hit three over the fence. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/4/2014

Softbank Hawks

  • Tadashi Settsu (right shoulder) threw fifty-six pitches in the bullpen on Monday.  He is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Yomiuri Giants at YafuOku Dome. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014
  • A batted ball bounced off the outfield wall during Sunday's game against Yakult and struck Akira Nakamura in the face.  Nakamura was later diagnosed with a bruise on his right cheek.  There were concerns about his vision due to swelling, but he appeared to be okay when he checked in with team trainers for treatment on Monday. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014 ... Nakamura was in the starting line-up on Tuesday.
  • Hayato Terahara had surgery on his right knee on May 27.  He was discharged from a hospital in Fukuoka on Tuesday.  He is scheduled to begin his rehab on Wednesday. Source: Sponichi 6/3/2014, Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014

Orix Buffaloes

  • Yoshio Itoi suffered a cut on his lower lip when a ball he hit bounced and struck him on the month during Sunday's game against Yomiuri.  He needed three stitches to close the cut.  They will be removed in about a week.  He is not expected to miss any playing time. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014 ... Itoi was in the starting line-up on Tuesday.

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Atsunori Inaba (left knee) joined the Ichi-gun team for pre-game practices on Tuesday.  "I am at 100 percent in terms of hitting.  I still can't run at full speed.   I have some pain with my first few steps," Inaba said.  He will return to Ni-gun on Saturday and could play in a rehab game some time next week.   • Michel Abreu might end up missing the first-half of the season with lower back pain.  Abreu is currently getting treatment in the United States.  There is still no timetable on when he might be able to resume practices or when he might be able to return to Japan. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014

[5/24/2014] Softbank Hawks: Hayato Terahara to undergo knee surgery on 27th

The Softbank Hawks announced that Hayato Terahara will undergo debridement surgery on his right knee at a hospital in Fukuoka on the 27th.  He will most likely require four to five months for a full recovery.

  • Leslie Anderson (right thigh) was at the Ni-gun facilities in Kawasaki on Sunday.  He wore a weighted vest (five kilograms) during workouts.  He focused on upper body exercises, including soft-toss batting practice while seated. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/18/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Hiroki Uemoto (right thumb) played in his second Ni-gun rehab game on Sunday.  He got the start at second and batted lead-off.  He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a sac hit. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/18/2014

  • Kenta Maeda suffered a bruised right thigh during Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants.  He told reporters on Sunday that while there was still some swelling, he thought he would be okay to make his next start as scheduled. Softbank Hawks

  • Brian Wolfe left Sunday's game against Orix early because of tightness in his right elbow -- he was pulled after throwing three pitches to Wily Mo Pena in the 2nd inning.  Wolfe felt some tightness from the start of the game.  What happens next will depend on how he is feeling on Monday.   • Hiroki Uemoto (right thumb) played in a batting practice scrimmage at Naruohama on Friday.  He went 1-for-2: walk on five pitches, fly out to right on the second pitch, single to left on 1-1 fastball.  He also took fielding practice at second base.   • Kenta Maeda took a ball hit by Shinnosuke Abe off his right thigh with a runner on first and two out in the 6th inning of Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants.  He managed to complete the play at first for the final out of the inning, but had to helped off the field.  He was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 7th.  The Carp will wait to see how Maeda is feeling on Sunday before deciding what steps to take next.   • Motohiro Shima hurt his left leg when Takumi Kuriyama tried to score from second on a two-out single hit to right by Hideto Asamura in the 7th inning of Saturday's game against the Seibu Lions.  Shima had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.  He was later diagnosed with a bruise on his left thigh and is considered day-to-day. Chunichi Dragons

Hector Luna was scratched from tonight's game against the Yakult Swallows after he hurt his right knee while taking pre-game batting practice.  Changes to the line-up were made about five minutes before the start of the game.

Hanshin Tigers

Tsuyoshi Nishioka (left knee) played in a Ni-gun rehab intra-squad game today.  He got six trips to the plate and collected one hit from each side of the plate.  Assuming no setbacks, he could make it back to the active roster in time for the Yakult series that begins on the 16th.

Takeshi Hidaka (left hamstring) also played in the game.

Yuji Kaneko hurt his right knee while playing defense in Wednesday's game against the Softbank Hawks.  He was taken off the active roster today.  He was examined but nothing serious was discovered.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka (left knee) practiced outdoors at Naruohama today.  He joined the main group for batting practice and took fielding practice at second.  He could play in a Ni-gun intra-squad game on Thursday, assuming no tightness or soreness.

Yuji Nishino was taken off the active roster on the 10th with pain in his right shoulder.  His examination on Monday revealed that his injury was not serious.  Assuming no problems, he could return to the active roster before the end of the month.

Shotaro Ide hurt his left knee in tonight's game against the Yomiuri Giants.  He suffered the injury when he tried to make a leaping catch up against the wall in the 1st inning.  He was examined at a hospital in Tokyo and diagnosed with a collateral ligament injury in his left knee.

Ide will be re-examined on Wednesday at a hospital in Yokohama.
