Hiroyuki Nakajima OAK DL                   From SF Chronicle's Susan Slusser: Hiro Nakajima will head to extended spring training in Arizona on Monday as he recovers from a hamstring injury, and he is likely to get in games there. He's expected to play shortstop, at least initially. It would not surprise me a bit, however, if the A's begin to have him work at some other spots while there. I don't see any way Jed Lowrie is coming out of the A's shortstop spot any time soon, so Nakajima needs to be as versatile as all of Oakland's other infielders if he ever is to have a shot at playing much. The Yankees could end up offering Hiroki Kuroda US$15 million to US$16 million.  From The New York Post's Joel Sherman:

Kuroda rejected the Yankees' $13.3 million tender offer for 2013, which means the Yankees likely would have to pay more than that just to keep Kuroda for one season. And they probably would be willing to go to $15 million-$16 million. Because the Yankees made the tender, they would receive a draft pick between the first and second rounds if Kuroda left, and the Dodgers or Angels would lose their first-round pick if they signed Kuroda.

11/3/2012: Iwakuma gets two-year deal; Ichiro to play in majors next year

by on Nov.03, 2012 @ 2:44 pm, under MLB
Tags: , ,

The Seattle Mariners signed Hisashi Iwakuma to a two-year deal.  From MLB.com's Greg Johns:

Right-handed starter Hisashi Iwakuma, who helped stabilize Seattle's rotation in the second half of last season, agreed to a two-year contract extension Friday that will keep him with the Mariners at least through 2014.

Iwakuma, 31, would have become a free agent after Saturday if he and the Mariners didn't come to an agreement, but the two sides hammered out a contract that includes an option for a possible third season in 2015.

As first reported by Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the deal is worth $14 million for two years, with Iwakuma earning $6.5 million in 2013 and '14, with a $1 million buyout on a $7 million option for 2015.

Heyman's initial report can be found here.

Yankees have "a good chance" to re-sign Hiroki Kuroda.  From the New York Post's Justin Terranova (via Sanspo):

As for Kuroda, Rothschild thinks that if the veteran righty pitches in the majors it will be in pinstripes.

"I think he enjoyed the experience," Rothschild said. "His decision to some degree is, is this the year to go back to Japan. He feels like he has a debt to the team in Japan that he played for. So, he'd like to pitch another year for them before he retires. … If he's not I think we have a good chance to re-sign him and play for us or possibly the Dodgers. I know he enjoyed New York."

===

Ichiro Suzuki will play in the majors next season.  From the New York Post's Dan Martin and George A. King (via Sponichi):

... And Ichiro, while terrific after coming from Seattle, doesn't provide much power. He did show, however, he's not simply a role player, despite being 39 years old.

Ichiro did not hide the fact he enjoyed his time with the Yankees and is said to be willing to wait for the team to sort out the outfield situation.
