Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata (left pinky) took about fifty swings during batting practice at Kyocera Dome on Sunday.  He is currently swinging the bat at about seventy percent.  He is scheduled for a regular examination on Tuesday.  If everything is ok, he could return to the active roster on the same day.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Tadahito Iguchi missed games on the 25th and 26th because of pain in his left knee.  He made it back into the starting line-up tonight against the Nippon Ham Fighters.

Chunichi Dragons

Doala (left middle finger fracture) rode a tricycle around the Nagoya Dome field on Sunday with signs that indicated he was getting better and planned to turn a back-flip during the last home game of the season.

Yakult Swallows

The media learned on Saturday that twenty-four-year-old pitcher Yuji Nakane had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on the 25th.  He will require about a year for a full recovery.  The Swallows are expected to sign Nakane to an Ikusei contract after the season.

Seibu Lions

Takumi Kuriyama took an HBP off his head in the 6th inning of Sunday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines.  Kuriyama left the field for treatment and was able to return to play out the rest of the game.

Lotte's Wil Ledezma was tossed for throwing the dangerous pitch.  He is the eleventh pitcher to get tossed for throwing a dangerous pitch this season (eighth in the PL).

Esteban German was pulled from Sunday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines on defense in the 4th inning because of discomfort in his neck.

A team spokesperson told the media German was pulled as a precaution because he felt discomfort in his neck while swinging the bat.  He is considered day-to-day.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Craig Brazell tweaked his left ankle during his at bat in the 3rd inning of Sunday's game against the Seibu Lions.  He remained in the game but was replaced by a pinch-runner in the 6th because the ankle was feeling worse.  Brazell told reporters that he should be ok to play on Monday.

Orix Buffaloes

Yoshio Itoi was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the 7th inning of Saturday's game against Nippon Ham because he was not feeling well -- his eyes were giving him problems and he had a headache.  The problems went away with some rest and oxygen.

Yomiuri Giants

Shinnosuke Abe made it into Satuday's game as a catcher in the 7th.  He was forced to the bench because of a shingle outbreak on the 21st.  His condition has improved to the point where he might be able to return to the starting line-up on Sunday.

Chunichi Dragons

Yohei Oshima and Junki Ito will go under the knife next month -- Oshima will get his left elbowed cleaned out on the 12th and Ito will have surgery on his right elbow (synovial fold - 滑膜ひだ) on the 26th.

Oshima should be able to resume workouts before the end of the year.  He is hoping to be at one-hundred percent for spring camp.

Ito will likely require about two months before he is able to return to workouts.

Hanshin Tigers

Kentaro Sekimoto was taken off the active roster on Friday with tightness running from his lower back to his glutes.  It is uncertain if he will be able to return to the active roster in time for the First Stage of the Climax Series.

Chiba Lotte Marines

Yoshihisa Naruse (left shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Yomiuri on Saturday and gave up two runs on six hits over five innings of work.  He threw eighty-six pitches, walked three, fanned three.  Assuming no setbacks, he could return to the active roster in time for a start against Orix on October 6.

Chunichi Dragons

The media learned that Yohei Oshima will have his left elbow cleaned out in October.

Oshima first complained of pain in his elbow in February and then again in June.

Hiroshima Carp

Kenta Maeda took a batted ball off his right knee in the 1st inning of Thursday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was carried off the field to get treatment and managed to return.  After five innings, he asked to be removed from the game because he felt his balance was out of sync.  He is currently expected to make his next start on October 3 (vs Chunichi at Mazda Stadium).

Seibu Lions

Yusei Kikuchi started a Ni-gun game against Yakult on Thursday and left after throwing just one inning (16 NP, 5 BF, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 SO, 2 ER) because of discomfort in his left shoulder.

Tomoya Satozaki was taken off the active roster today with a left knee injury.  Satozaki hurt the knee during practices on Thursday.  He was examined at a Tokyo hospital and diagnosed with an injury to the lateral collateral ligament in his knee.

Katsuya Kakunaka hurt his back during a game on the 24th and was also taken off the active roster today.

The Marines announced that Masatomo Uematsu had arthroscopic surgery on his right hip.  There were no complications during the procedure.  He will be hospitalized for about a week.

Wladimir Balentien was replaced on defense in the 5th inning of Thursday's game against Yomiuri because he felt tightness in his left Achilles' tendon.

Kenta Maeda took a batted ball off the area near his right knee in the 1st inning of Thursday's game against the Chunichi Dragons.  He was carried off the field for treatment and returned to the mound a few minutes later and was able to continue pitching.

Yamato played in a rehab practice game against Orix at Naruohama on Thursday.  He played center for a few innings (only defense) before he came out of the game and went to Koshien Stadium to workout in front of the Ichi-gun coaches.

The Hawks announced that Bryan LaHair will have surgery on his left wrist.  He will require about three months for a full recovery.

Tadahito Iguchi and Katsuya Kakunaka did not play on Thursday -- Iguchi because of a bruise on his left knee and Kakunaka because of back pain.  Toshiaki Imae (left calf) also started the night on the bench, but made it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the 9th and walked in a run.

Nippon Ham Fighters

Sho Nakata was examined at a Sapporo hospital on Wednesday.  He was given the green light to resume hitting workouts because the fracture in his left pinky was showing signs of improvement.  If his next evaluation on October 2 goes well, he could return to the active roster on the same day.

Nakata took seventy-one swings during soft-toss batting practice and his twenty-seven over the fence.  He later told reporters he was swinging the bat at about fifty to sixty percent.  He is expected to move up to live batting practice around the 28th or 29th.

Sho Nakata (left pinky finger) resumed batting practice today -- he took soft-toss batting practice with both hands.

The coaches will monitor Nakata's progress by having him travel with the team on their next road trip.

From tonight's game against the Nippon Ham Fighters: Toshiaki Imae felt discomfort in his left calf while running the bases in the 1st inning and was replaced by a pinch-runner after hitting a single to right in the 4th; Tadahito Iguchi took an HBP off the side of his left knee in the 4th and was removed from defense in the 5th; Katsuya Kakunaka was pulled in the bottom of the 6th after his back pains grew worse.

Tsutomu Ito told reporters Kakunaka's back was not good and that he might be taken off the active roster depending on how he felt on Thursday.

Atsushi Fujii is scheduled to return to the active roster on Wednesday.  Fujii was taken off the active roster on the 2nd after he hurt his left leg during a game against the Yomiuri Giants on the 1st and was diagnosed with a strain in his biceps femoris muscle.

Katsuya Kakunaka was replaced by a pinch-runner after hitting a single to center in the 6th because of lower back pain.  Tsutomu Ito told reporters Kakunaka tweaked his back when attempted to steal second in the 2nd inning.

Kenta Maeda (tonsillitis) got the day off on Sunday and is feeling better.  As of now, he is still set to make his next start as planned: on the 26th vs Chunichi at Nagoya Dome on four day of rest.

Takahiro Arai may have been left out of the starting line-up on Sunday because of tightness in his right leg.  He did make it into the game as a defensive replacement at first in the top of the 9th.

Arai did not appear on the field during pre-game practices and spent his time working out indoors.  He was prepared to make an appearance as a pinch-hitter in the 7th, but never got the opportunity.

Yutaka Wada mentioned nothing about the leg and said to reporters, "He started the game on the bench because we wanted to try some things out."
