Urban Youth Academy beats Japan in final game, 2-1.

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team played their third and final game against the Urban Youth Academy on the 6th and were beaten 2-1.

Yosuke Shimabukuro started the game and gave up the game-tying run in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch.

Shinta Hifumi surrendered the game-winning run in the 6th.

Japan scored their long run on a sac fly by Daiki Maehira in the top of the 4th.


Japan beats Urban Youth Academy, 18-7, in second game

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team played their second game against the Urban Youth Academy on the 5th and beat them 18-7.

Shinta Hifumi started the game and gave up a run over 4 innings of work.

Daiki Maehira hit 2 homers: 2-run homer in the first and a 3-run homer in the 5th.


Japan beats Urban Youth Academy, 9-6

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team played their first game against the Urban Youth Academy on the 4th and beat them 9-6.

Yosuke Shimabukuro started the game and gave up 3 runs (including a 2-run homer) on 6 hits over 5 innings of work.  He also struck out 5.

Moritsugu Ganeko had 4 hits (including a 2-run homer in the 9th) and 3 RBI.

Tairiku Kuniyoshi went 4-for-5.

8 of the 15 hits for Japan came from Konan players.

Japan All-High School Baseball Team practice game

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team played a practice game against Palm Spring High School on the 2nd.

Yosuke Shimabukuro started the game for Japan and tossed two shutout innings (0 H, 2 BB, 3 SO).  Shinta Hifumi also pitched and did not allow any hits or walks and struck out 2 in his outing (not sure how many innings).

Daiki Maehira and Tetsuto Yamada both apparently hit for the cycle with Maehira going 5-for-6 with 6 RBI and Yamada going 5-for-5 with 5 RBI.

A little more information:

Maehira's at bats- 2-run homer (1st), infield single, triple to right, single to right, fly out to center, double to right-center (9th).

Hifumi tossed two shutout innings.

Yamada's at bats- triple to right-center (1st), walk, single to left, double to left, infield single, 2-run homer (9th).

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team also played a practice game against first and second year college students from Kindai on Sunday and beat them, 3-2. All pitchers on the roster, other than Masataka Watanabe (he wasn't feeling well) pitched in the game; Yosuke Shimabukuro entered the game in the 9th with a 3-2 lead and tossed a shutout inning in relief while topping out at 141km/h.

Today was also their last day of practice.  The team will head to the US tomorrow.

Japan All-High School Baseball Team’s US Schedule

The Japan All-High School Baseball Team will get together beginning on the 26th and work out in Japan until the 30th.  They will then head out to Los Angeles on the 31st.  Their schedule in the US includes four games against the Urban Youth Academy and a chance to catch two ballgames (Dodgers vs Phillies on the 1st and Angels vs Indians on the 6th).  The team will then return home on 9/8.

Japan All-High School Baseball Team takes in a Dodgers’ game

The Japan All-High School baseball team managed to get on the field at Dodgers Stadium on the 8/2, prior to the start of the Dodgers - D-backs game, to watch pre-game practice.  They also had a chance to meet up with Hiroki Kuroda.

Chukyodai Chukyo's Shota Dobayashi took one look at the Dodger's Stadium and said, "It's huge. This is obviously the Majors." When asked what kinds of things he was going to focus in on during the game, Dobayashi said, "Everyone's individual at bats. I want to have some fun while studying up on the game."

The Japan All-High School baseball team is currently visiting the US to play a few games.  There currently schedule is as follows:

This year the annual U.S.-Japan All-Star series has returned to the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy and on Wednesday, Urban Youth Academy players and players from the Japan High School Baseball Federation took in a game at Dodger Stadium.
