The Chiba Lotte Marines announced today that they will not sign the following six players to contracts for the 2014 season: Yuji Yoshimi (35), Kentaro Hashimoto (33), Tetsuya Yamamoto (23), Koshiro Yamamuro (26), Takeshi Aono (30), and Takahito Kudo (32). Yoshimi, Aono, and Kudo wish to continue playing. Hashimoto, Yamamoto, and Yamamuro are undecided.
The organization also officially announced they were parting ways with Dicky Gonzalez (34) and Josh Whitesell (31).
The Chiba Lotte Marines are planning to part ways with thirty-four-year-old pitcher Dicky Gonzalez and thirty-one-year-old infielder Josh Whitesell.
Gonzalez pitched in only four Ichi-gun games this season and failed to secure a spot on the active roster. Whitesell was taken off the active roster on May 6 with a right wrist injury and became expendable when the team signed Craig Brazell in June.
Kazuo Matsui felt some pain in his right hamstring while running the bases on Tuesday. He was held out of the starting line-up tonight as a precaution and given time to get some treatment on his hamstring. He is still considered day-to-day.
Takeya Nakamura recovery (left knee surgery) is taking a little longer than expected. The Lions were initially hoping to have their slugger back for the start of the second-half of the season on July 24 (first game after the All-Star break), but it now seems he might not be ready until some time in mid-August, at the earliest.
Nakamura started taking batting practice while wearing cleats on May 18. He has also started playing catch while wearing cleats. He is still taking things slow with his running and fielding workouts.
Sho Aranami was not only thrown out trying to steal third with two outs in the 7th inning (he ran on his own, there was no signal from the bench) against Hiroshima tonight, he also had to be removed from the game because he hurt his nose and right cheek. He will undergo a full examination on Thursday.
Josh Whitesell (Lotte) was held out of tonight's game against Nippon Ham because of pain in his right wrist. While he was technically available as a bat off the bench, the team gave him the night off as a precaution.
The Carp announced today that Yusuke Nomura was diagnosed with a minor injury in his right glenoid labrum. Nomura has already started playing catch (began on the 16th) and the team does not expect the injury to sideline him for an extended period of time.
Sanspo reports that the Chiba Lotte Marines may be close to deals with both Josh Whitesell (29) and Seth Greisinger (36). Assuming things go smoothly with Whitesell, a deal could be officially announced as early as today. The Marines are also expected to make an announcement about Greisinger before the end of the year as well.
