Hideki Kuriyama would like Shohei Otani to play in at least five games a week -- one game as a pitcher, one game off, then four days as a position player (primarily as a designated hitter).  He could give his idea a try during the summer, after Inter-league play.

For example, when the team plays six games in a row from Tuesday to Sunday: play in games as a position player from Tuesday to Friday, rest on Saturday, start Sunday's game as a pitcher, day off on Monday.

The Fighters announced that they signed agreed to terms with thirty-year-old infielder Juan Miranda.

I have managed to sign a contract with the Nippon Ham Fighters.  I am honored to have this chance to play for such a wonderful team.  I have wanted to play in Japan for quite some time and now I have attained that dream.  I will do my best as a member of the Fighters.  I am prepared to give it my all to help them win a championship next year.  I have heard great things about this team and its fans from my friend Michel Abreu.  I hope we can anchor the line-up together next season and drive in some runs.
