Hiroshima Carp sign Justin Huber and Jeff Fiorentino

The Hiroshima Carp announced on Tuesday that they signed Jeff Fiorentino (OF) and Justin Huber (INF).

Fiorentino gets a contract worth 40M yen plus incentives and a 10M yen signing bonus; Huber 40M yen plus incentives and a 5.5M yen signing bonus.

Huber was assigned the number 11 and Fiorentino the number 43.


Hiroshima Carp interested in Justin Huber

The Carp are apparently interested in 27-year-old infielder Justin Huber.  Huber spent most of his 2009 season at AAA with the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins farm club).

With Kenta Kurihara likely moving over to third, Huber would project to be the team's starting first baseman.

Said Kenjiro Nomura, "He's got a compact swing and has power to be in the middle of the line-up.  He might not be the type of player that can do the little things, but you can usually count on him to work on picking things up."

Nomura had a chance to see Huber back in March 2008 during Spring Training when Huber was still with the Royals (I guess just before he was traded to the Padres).
