[4/19/2013] Injury Updates: Yuhei, Kawabata (Yakult); Aranami (Yokohama); Nomoto (Chunichi)

Yuhei Takai was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.  There is a chance he will require surgery and may not be able to return this season.

Shingo Kawabata will have surgery to remove a bone fragment in his left ankle on the 22nd.  It may be about two months before he can play again.

Sho Aranami (Yokohama) was examined at a hospital in Yokohama and diagnosed depressed fracture in his right cheekbone.  He was removed from the active roster today and will go under the knife on the 22nd.

The Chunichi Dragons announced today that Kei Nomoto was diagnosed with a fissured fracture in his right third rib after an evaluation at a hospital in Nagoya.  He will likely require about six weeks for a full recovery.  Nomoto suffered the injury during a Ni-gun game against Hanshin on the 17th.

Chunichi Dragons: Masahiko Morino out with minor contusion on right abdominal oblique muscle

Roster movesTakeshi Yamasaki and Kei Nomoto were taken off the active roster today because they were diagnosed with influenza B.  And Masahiko Morino was taken off the active roster after he was diagnosed with a minor contusion on his right abdominal oblique muscle.  There is currently no timetable on his return.

Tony Blanco and Victor Diaz were called up to fill the open spots.

Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions / Batting Practice


  • Takeshi Yamasaki took 112 swings during lunchtime batting practice and hit twelve over the fence. [Sports Hochi Osaka]


  • Masahiro Yamamoto and Kenshin Kawakami tossed situational batting practice today.  Yamamoto faced nine batters and allowed two hits while Kawakami faced eleven batters and allowed two hits.  Kawakami also topped out at 138km/h. (Nikkan Sports)


  • Hitoshi Iwase threw thirty pitches in the bullpen. (Nikkan Sports)


Kei Nomoto took things a little slow during practice today due to fasciitis in his right calf.  There are no plans to send Nomoto to a hospital at this stage but he will spend time away from Ichi-gun.


Hitoki Iwase will likely get to start an exhibition game against Hiroshima on March 2.


1st round draft pick Shuhei Takahashi spent some time signing autographs after practices on Thursday.


Through Thursday, 1st round draft pick Takahashi is 7-for-24 with five extra base hits and four RBI over seven games.
