  • Atsushi Nomi was taken off the active roster on Monday after he felt something in his left side during his start against Chunichi on Sunday. Source: Daily Sports 6/30/2014 ... Nomi was examined at the hospital on Monday.  The injury does not seem to be serious. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/30/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Yuichi Hisamoto was examined at a hospital in Hiroshima on Monday and diagnosed with an injury to his left flexor carpi ulnaris muscle.  He will most likely have to wear a cast for three weeks.  It is uncertain how much time he will need for a full recovery. Source: Daily Sports 6/30/2014

  • Kyohei Muranaka's (lower back) is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun game against Rakuten at July 1.  If he is okay, he could start an Ichi-gun game against Hiroshima at Mazda Stadium on July 6. Source: Sponichi 6/30/2014

Rakuten Eagles

  • Senichi Hoshino will probably spend the next week to ten days preparing for his surgery.  He might be able to return to his duties about a month after the procedure.  The start of the second-half of the season (July 21) is a possibility.  His status for the All-Star game is up in the air.  Hoshino is no longer traveling with the team -- he moved to a separate location on Wednesday.   • Kevin Youkilis (left heel) attended an event for the Red Sox in Boston on the 28th.  A leg/foot specialist in California is currently providing Youkilis with treatment.  "The pain was so bad that I could not do anything for the team," said Youkilis.  "I'll be able to play once the pain goes away."  He also said he could not set a timetable at this point in time. The Eagles received an update on Thursday that pointed to a possible return in about two months.  They also had a chance to speak to Youkilis and were able to confirm that he wanted to return to Japan.   • Tadashi Settsu started a Ni-gun game against Hanshin on Wednesday.  He gave up a run on two hits over four innings of work.  He threw fifty-six pitches and topped out at 142km/h.  This was his first outing since he was taken off the active roster on the 10th with a tired right shoulder.  He might be able to return to the active roster some time next week.   • Kenji Otonari (ossification of yellow ligament) is slated to start a Ni-gun game against Chunichi on June 1.  He is also scheduled to make an appearance in relief during a Ni-gun game against Hanshin on the 29th.  The game on the 29th will be his first at Ni-gun this season. Kenji Otonari tossed another bullpen session on Monday.  It was his third session of 100 or more pitches in as many days.  He is planning to toss another bullpen on Tuesday.

Nao Higashihama has been working on a curve.  While he is unable to throw a traditional curve because of a complex fracture he suffered when he was in elementary school, he still managed to find a grip that allows him throw a ball with movement like a curve.

Nagisa Arakaki has a slightly longer right leg due to a surgical procedure he had on his right knee when he was a kid.  As a result, his left leg tended to straighten out on the landing.  He is currently trying to use the left knee a little more to improve efficiency and stability.

Koji Akiyama is spending a little more time watching players at Ni-gun camp this spring because there are more of them to watch (especially with all the new foreign players they signed this off-season) and because his presence might keep them motivated.

Softbank Hawks

Kenji Otonari (had surgery to treat the ossification of the yellow ligament) tossed batting practice at the Saitozaki training facilities on Thursday.  It was his third session since his surgery and first since October 8.

Otonari threw fifty-one pitches.  About half were sliders and change-ups.

Yakult Swallows

The Swallows decided to pull Wladimir Balentien from Tuesday's nights game after the top of the 3rd out of concern for his left Achilles' tendon.  There was still a small chance for him to overtake Tony Blanco in batting average, but the Swallows decided to play it safe.

Softbank Hawks

Kenji Otonari (had surgery to treat the ossification of the yellow ligament) threw thirty-one pitches in the bullpen before tossing sixty-one pitches during batting practice on Tuesday.  He told reporters he started feeling tired after throwing about fifty.  He is hoping to make it to the Phoenix League around the 20th.

Mamoru Kishida continues to rehab the Lisfranc injury in his right foot.  He spoke to reporters today and said, "I am feeling much better.  I tossed a bullpen session, but I am still not there yet.  I want to hurry up and play some baseball."

Kenji Otonari (had surgery to treat the ossification of the yellow ligament) tossed sixty-one pitches to Ikusei players Daiki Nakahara and Ryosuke Shibata during batting practice at the Saitozaki facilities today.  He also tossed batting practice on the 5th.

Otonari is hoping to pitch in the Phoenix League.

Yuki Nishi tweaked his right ankle when attempting to cover first base in the second inning of tonight's game against the Rakuten Eagles.  He tried to pitch in the 3rd, but was pulled before he could throw any practice pitches.  He is considered day-to-day.

Shota Dobayashi (fracture in third metacarpal in left hand) was re-examined at a hospital in Hiroshima on Tuesday and given the green light for batting practice.  Dobayashi still feels some pain in his hand.  He is expected to resume taking batting practice within the next couple days.

Seibu Lions

Takeya Nakamura (left knee) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Yokohama on Tuesday.  He was the starting DH and batted fourth.  He went 1-for-2: BB, HR7, K.  He also started feeling pain in his left shoulder when he fouled a ball off during his third trip to the plate in the 5th inning.  His return to the active roster will be delayed once again.

Kenji Otonari (had surgery to treat the ossification of the yellow ligament) played catch at a distance of about forty meters on Tuesday.  Otonari still feels some numbness in his left foot, but is otherwise doing well.  He is hoping to throw at full strength before the end of the month and make it to the Phoenix League for rehab games.
