Kentaro Takasaki is scheduled to start Saturday's game.  Yuki Kuniyoshi will relieve Takasaki on Saturday since his start today was rained out.

===

There is a chance Alex Ramirez might be available as a pinch-hitter on opening day.  Ramirez is currently at around forty percent without pain.

===

Taketoshi Goto visited a hospital in Yokohama today for an MRI and was diagnosed with some inflammation in his right biceps femoris muscle.  Goto will remain with the Ichi-gun team as he makes his recovery.

Kiyoshi Nakahata told reporters after today's exhibition game against the Rakuten Eagles that Kentaro Takasaki will be his opening day starter.

===

The Bay Stars want to go with a five-man rotation, but there is some concern about whether or not Daisuke Miura will be able to handle pitching on five days of rest.

"Pitching on five days of rest might be difficult [for Miura]," said pitching coach Yui Tomori.  "But he has a mental presence and he is experienced. We need him to be healthy for the whole season.  We will use him carefully."

Miura responded, "I should be able to pitch on five days of rest because I worked out with that in mind.  I want to maintain a spot in the starting rotation."

===

It appears Norihiro Nakamura will, for the time being, take over as the new clean-up hitter while Alex Ramirez (strain in his left rectus femoris) is out.  With regards to other aspects of the line-up, the Bay Stars will use their remaining exhibition games to figure out what to do -- they were initially planning on getting rid of the DH rule today and have their pitchers get used to hitting, but they will now continue to make use of the DH rule while they test out a number of different players.

===

Head coach Yutaka Takagi told reporters that he did not mind if Ramirez missed the first ten games of the season if he can return at 100% for the remaining 134 games.

Ramirez started his rehab at Yokohama Stadium today.

===

Nikkan Sports is guessing the following...

  • The first four hitters in the starting line-up will likely be: Takayuki Kajitani, Hichori Morimoto, Takehiro Ishikawa (ideally would have been Yoshitomo Tsutsugo), and Nakamura (ideally would have been Ramirez).
  • Keijiro Matsumoto will most likely slide into left (taking defense over offense).

Daisuke Miura is slated to start and pitch five innings against the Rakuten Eagles on Tuesday.

Miura, Kentaro Takasaki, and Yuki Kuniyoshi are all competing for opening day starts.

Sponichi notes that Takasaki could get the season opener on March 30 (vs Hanshin at Kyocera Dome) with Kuniyoshi getting the home opener on April 3 (vs Chunichi at Yokohama).

Kentaro Takasaki tossed a bullpen session today because his start against the Orix Buffaloes was rained out.  He is also slated to pitch against the Softbank Hawks on Sunday.

===

Kiyoshi Nakahata showed up in the first base dugout after today's game was canceled (because of the rain) and sang Anata-no Blues (あなたのブルース).

===

Nikkan Sports is reporting that Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (left ankle) may not be able to return until late April.  Nakahata does not plan on calling Tsutsugo up until he has 1) played in games and 2) played well in those games.

===

Yuki Kuniyoshi has not allowed a run over fifteen exhibition game innings.  Nakahata told reporters on Friday that at this point in time, he was leaning towards giving Kuniyoshi either the season opener on March 30 (vs Hanshin at Kyocera Dome), or the home opener on April 3 (vs Chunichi).

===

For the second straight game there was an error in the line-up card: both Hichori Morimoto and Sho Aranami were penciled in at right when Aranami was supposed to be in center.

Kentaro Takasaki is scheduled to start Saturday's exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants.

The top four batters in the line-up could be: Sho Aranami, Naoto Watanabe, Takehiro Ishikawa, and Alex Ramirez.

===

The Bay Stars announced today that Shintaro Ejiri will begin working out at Ni-gun on Saturday because of pain in his right shoulder.

===

Alex Ramirez has been feeling some tightness in his back.  He played through Thursday's game against KIA with the help from the trainer.

===

In an effort to strengthen their farm system, the Bay Stars plan to add about fifty games to their Ni-gun schedule this year.  The games will be in addition to the Ni-gun regular season schedule and will be against University, Industrial, and Independent League teams (two games have already been decided: JX-ENEOS and Tokyo University).  In cases where two Ni-gun games are scheduled, the Bay Stars will split their Ni-gun roster into two groups.

Said GM Shigeru Takada, "We have a lot of players and not enough regular season games.  And there are things you can only learn by playing in games.  There are a lot of things players can take away from games and we also want to give the younger players more experience."

Alex Ramirez and Yuki Yoshimura visited about 870 kids at Kakazu Elementary School in Ginowan on their day off today.

===

Kiyoshi Nakahata told reporters today that he felt Yoshitomo Tsutsugo would be ok if he was able to play in the last five exhibition games on the schedule.  He then added that coming back at 100% was top priority.

===

===

The Ichi-gun players had the day off on Monday.

===

Head coach Takagi Yutaka observed Ni-gun workouts in Kadena, Okinawa on Monday.

===

Daisuke Miura, Takayuki Shinohara, and Shintaro Ejiri will be called up to Ichi-gun camp on Tuesday.

Takehiro Ishikawa was excused from extra fielding practice on Monday afternoon because of a sore left foot.

===

Pitching coach Yui Tomori had to stop Yuki Kuniyoshi from throwing too much on Sunday out of fear he might re-injure his right shoulder.

===

Kentaro Takasaki faced Taketoshi Goto and Kazuya Fujita during batting practice on Sunday and allowed two could-be hits on forty-four pitches.  Takasaki threw a total 473 pitches during the first block of spring camp.

===

Teammates were concerned with Yuki Yoshimura on Sunday because he was coughing during practices.

"It is not like I kissed Rami-chan so I should be ok.  I never really had strong bronchial tubes," said Yoshimura.

Yoshimura does not have a fever and is otherwise feeling ok.

===

Kiyoshi Nakahata is still scheduled to return to the field on Tuesday.

===

Alex Ramirez apparently got a flu shot in mid-January before returning to Japan.

Today was the end of the first block of spring camp for the Ichi-gun Bay Stars.  The team has the day off tomorrow.

===

===

A number of batters, including Yoshitomo Tsutsugo, Takehiro Ishikawa, Taketoshi Goto, Keijiro Matsumoto, and Sho Aranami tried hitting baseballs into a net that were dropped from above by head coach Takagi.

===

Pitching coach Yui Tomori does not think the young pitchers are working hard enough.

"There are a number of pitchers that are cutting back how many pitches they throw because of the amount of running they will do doing later in the day.  I want to drop [those guys to Ni-gun] right away," said Tomori.

Daisuke Miura, Shintaro Ejiri, and Takayuki Shinohara are expected to be promoted to Ichi-gun for the second block of camp which means three pitchers will likely be demoted.

===

The media learned on Saturday that there is a good chance Ishikawa will become the next team captain.

===

Ramirez worked with Tsutsugo on his hitting on Saturday.
