Yokohama Bay Stars Spring Camp News and Notes: February 13, 2011

This post will be updated throughout the day.

===== 2/13 @ 9:57pm

The Bay Stars held a press conference for Kuan-Yu Chen today.  Yokohama signed the 20-year-old LHP to a 3-year deal worth 6M yen (plus a 20M yen signing bonus).  He was also assigned the number 53.

===

Yoshitomo Tsutsugo and Shuichi Murata took BP for about 25 minutes in the afternoon today -- Tsutsugo hit 22 over the fence and Murata hit 9 over the fence.

===== 2/13 @ 1:49pm

Yesterday's intra-squad practice game:

Takayuki Kajitani started at short and batted 9th.  He went 1-for-2 with the bat and also showed some solid glovework in the field -- with runners on second and third with 1 out in the 2nd, he made a diving grab on a ball between third and short; he also made a nice play in the 6th with a runner on third and no out.  Kajitani also had a problem with his belt breaking partway through the game.

===

Sho Aranami (3rd round) has batted lead-off in two intra-squad games and has collected hits in his first at bat in each of those games.

Aranami - "The last time I hit a fastball, this time I was able to make good contact on a slider.  I hit the ball with the end of the bat, but felt that if it got by the fielders, I could make it a triple. ... I always consider my first at bat, the first pitch I see, very important.  I'm always ready for it.  Now I need to work on extending this out to the rest of my at bats."

Yokohama Bay Stars could be the highest bidder for Kuan-Yu Chen

According to one of my sources, the Yokohama Bay Stars may ended up being the highest bidder for Kuan-Yu Chen.  It appears Chen's parents and his former high school coach are also involved in the talks.  And while the number can't be confirmed, it also seems the current high bid is in the neighborhood of US$300,000.
