  • Ayumu Ishikawa (right middle finger nail) started a Ni-gun rehab game against Rakuten on Saturday.  He gave up an earned run on one hit and a walk over two innings of work.  He faced eight batters, threw twenty-seven pitches, and struck out two.  He could make it back to the active roster in time for a start during the Nippon Ham series that begins on the 29th at Tokyo Dome. Yomiuri Giants

  • Kyosuke Takagi was involved in a car accident on Friday and suffered a bruise on his right arm.  The incident took place at 6:55am on a road in Kawasaki, Kanagawa.  Takagi was on his way to practices at Giants Stadium when an oncoming car suddenly swerved into his lane.  The driver in the other car told police he turned the steering wheel to avoid a car that was trying to merge into his lane in front of him.  The driver was not hurt.   • Masahiro Araki (right index finger) played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hanshin on Friday.  He got the start at second and batted second.  He went 1-for-1: doubled to left in the 1st and walked in the 2nd.  This was his first rehab game. Source: Sanspo 7/11/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

Yakult Swallows

  • Wladimir Balentien (left Achilles tendon) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Friday.  He was the starting designated hitter against Yokohama and batted third.  He went 2-for-2: infield single in the 1st, single to center in the 4th.  He was replaced by a pinch-runner in the 4th.  It was his first game since June 13.  He will get three at bats and the start in left during Saturday's Ni-gun game against Yokohama.  If everything is okay, he could join the Ichi-gun team on the 13th. Junji Ogawa told reporters on Thursday that they would consider calling Balentien up after he plays in at least two Ni-gun games, gets at least five at bats, and also has a chance to show he is ready on defense.   • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) started a Ni-gun game against Rakuten at Giants Stadium on Tuesday.  He gave up a run on three hits over 3.2 innings of work.  His start was cut short because the game was called due to rain.  He threw fifty-one pitches and topped out at 151km/h.   • Tetsuya Utsumi (left shoulder) is currently slated to pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 29th against Yakult.  If things go smoothly, he could return to the active roster during a six-game stretch that begins on July 1. Source: Daily Sports 6/24/2014

  • Shota Dobayashi (right ring finger) played in his first Ni-gun rehab game on Tuesday.  With the score tied at one with none on and two out in the 5th inning, he hit a 2-0 pitch over the left-center field wall. Dobayashi got the start at third and batted lead-off.  He went 2-for-3, including an infield hit in his first at bat, a walk in his second, and a solo home run in this third. Nikkan Sports 6/24/2014

  • According to Tokyo Sports, Masahiro Araki (right index finger) started playing catch on Monday even though doctors never gave him the green light.  He was being careful though: he threw the ball with a plastic splint on his index finger and tried to use more of his middle finger.  "... The swelling is going away and there's no pain.  I can actually throw the ball like this, and wanting to make it back as soon as possible is the way professionals think.  I'm not the type to wait until I'm completely healed, I like to do things as I heal," said Araki. Source: Tokyo Sports 6/24/2014 ...   • Leslie Anderson (right thigh) is expected to be ready to play in some rehab games at Ni-gun beginning on June 7.  He told reporters on Friday he was at about eighty percent.  He has already resumed batting practice, but has not done any running or hitting with cleats. Source: Sanspo 5/31/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Shinobu Fukuhara (right adductor) could join the team as early as June 2.  Tomoyuki Kubota (right elbow) is scheduled to pitch in another Ni-gun game next week. Source: Sanspo 5/31/2014
  • Kazunari Tsuruoka (right side) played some catch at a distance of about fifty meters at Naruohama on Friday for the first time since he was taken off the active roster on the 27th.  He told reporters on Thursday he had more problems swinging the bat than throwing the ball. Chunichi Dragons

  • Junki Ito (right elbow) started a Ni-gun rehab game against Softbank at Nagoya Stadium on Saturday.  With two outs in the 7th inning, catcher Iori Katsura tried to throw out a base-stealer at second.  The throw was low and hit Ito in the head.  He was bleeding and in pain.  He was removed from the game and taken to the hospital.  Brain tests did not reveal any problems.  He required stitches to close a cut on his right ear.   • Kenshin Kawakami (lower back) started a Ni-gun game against Softbank on Friday.  He gave up three runs on six hits over three innings of work.  He faced fourteen hitters, struck out one, hit one, and topped out at 142km/h.  It was his first game in about a month. Source: Nikkan Sports 5/31/2014
  • Masahiro Araki was hit by a pitch in a game against Orix at Nagoya Dome on the 29th and diagnosed with a fracture in his right index finger.  It could take a month and a half to two months for a full recovery.  However, Araki is hoping to make it back when the regular season resumes on June 27.   • Kazuki Yoshimi (lower back) could pitch in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hanshin on June 11.  He resumed pitching practices on the 29th.  He would like to pitch in at least three Ni-gun rehab games.  That could put his first Ichi-gun start on July 4 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome.   • Tetsuya Utsumi temporarily left the field in the 6th inning of Thursday's game against Rakuten because he felt discomfort in his left leg.  He received treatment off the field and was able to return. Source: Sponichi 5/29/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • The Tigers considering adding Shinobu Fukuhara (right adductor) to the active roster on Wednesday, but decided to give him a little more time to make sure he is fully recovered.  He will pitch in at least one more rehab game at Ni-gun and if everything is okay, he could be called up in time for the Rakuten series that begins on June 3 at kobo Stadium.   • Masahiro Araki was pulled from Thursday's game after he was hit by a pitch in the 1st inning -- Orix's Daiki Tomei hit him on the right hand with a 147km/h fastball.  Araki returned to the dugout for treatment and was replaced by a pinch-runner.   • Takuya Asao (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Hiroshima on Thursday.  He entered the game in the 9th and did not allow a run or a hit over an inning of work (F6, G6, Ks).  He topped out at 144km/h. Shinnosuke Abe was left out of the starting line-up on Saturday for the second game in a row out of concern for his physical condition.  He did make it into the game as a pinch-hitter in the 7th.

"They are taking my physical condition into consideration.  I will do my best to make it back [to the starting line-up] tomorrow," said Abe to reporters on Saturday.

Masahiro Araki was removed from defense in the 6th inning of Saturday's game against the Yomiuri Giants because of tightness in his left hamstring.  He will get treatment for the tightness (electro-therapy and ice) as he makes his way back to the starting line-up.

Chunichi Dragons

Yudai Ono took a batted ball off the left side of his head while pitching in the 7th inning.  He did not lose consciousness and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.  There was no damage to the bones and he was diagnosed with a bruise.

Hanshin Tigers

Yamato (bruise on right middle finger) kept his workouts light during pre-game practices on Wednesday.  The Tigers decided to leave him out of the starting line-up tonight to give him an extra day to recover -- they want him to be at 100% for the second-half.
