The Nippon Ham Fighters announced that they are parting ways with Michel Abreu.  They have already filed paperwork to place him on waivers.

The Fighters posted the following statement from Abreu:

The Fighter gave me the wonderful chance to play in Japan.  I appreciate the fans for their warm support, no matter the circumstances.  This is not how I wanted to leave the team, but I am focusing on rehab right now and will do everything I can to make sure I can play baseball again.  I hope that the Fighters are successful.  Thank you.

Rakuten Eagles

  • Shota Koseki took a baseball off his right wrist during Thursday's game against the Chiba Lotte Marines due to a signal mix-up with pitcher Takahiro Shiomi in the 2nd inning.  Koseki was removed from the game after his at bat in the 3rd.  Tests at a hospital did not reveal any broken bones.  He is considered day-to-day.   • Toshiaki Imae was left out of the starting line-up on Thursday against the Rakuten Eagles because of lower back pain. Source: Sports Hochi 8/8/2014

  • Ryoma Matsuda (right elbow) pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Orix on Sunday.  He entered the game in the 7th and tossed a shutout inning in relief.  He faced three hitters, did not allow any hits, threw nine pitches, and topped out at 148km/h. Source: Nikkan Sports 8/3/2014

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Michael Crotta was taken off the active roster on Sunday with tightness in his left flank.  He was examined at a hospital on Saturday and diagnosed with a strain in his left oblique abdominal muscle.  He could require about three weeks for a full recovery. Source: Sports Hochi 8/3/2014

  • Kenji Otonari pitched in a Ni-gun rehab game against Chunichi at YafuOku Dome on Tuesday.  He entered the game in the 6th and gave up a run on a hit (a solo home run to Alexis Gomez) over three innings of work.  It was his first game at YafuOku since May 31, 2013.   • Toru Hosokawa hurt the back of his right thigh during his at bat in the top of the 3rd inning.  He was replaced on defense in the bottom-half of the inning.  The injury does not appear to be serious. Source: Sponichi 7/4/2014

  • Hirokazu Sawamura (right shoulder) will most likely join the Ichi-gun team after Inter-league play ends. Source: Sponichi 6/17/2014 ... Sawamura started a Ni-gun game against Seibu on Tuesday.  He gave up three runs on eight hits over seven innings of work.  He threw ninety-one pitches and topped out at 148km/h.   • Itaru Hashimoto (left thigh) might be ready to return to the active roster, but Tatsunori Hara does not want to take any chances and plans to keep him at Ni-gun until he is fully recovered.  That could mean a return some time after Inter-league play. Source: Sanspo 6/17/2014

  • Tsuyoshi Nishioka played in a Ni-gun rehab game against Rakuten on Tuesday.  He was the starting designated hitter and batted lead-off.  He recorded a hit from the right side and stole a base. Source: Sports Hochi 6/17/2014 ... Nishioka went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Yokohama Bay Stars

  • Takayuki Kajitani was left out of the starting line-up on Tuesday because of pain in the back of his left knee.  He suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Softbank Hawks. Source: Sponichi 6/17/2014 ... Kajitani made it into Tuesday's game as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 8th.  He hit a double and was replaced by a pinch-runner.
  • Yoshitomo Tsutsugo's right calf is not 100 percent. Source: Sponichi 6/17/2014 ... Tsutsugo will be taken off the active roster on Wednesday with tightness in the back of his right thigh. Yakult Swallows

  • Tadashi Settsu (right shoulder) threw fifty-six pitches in the bullpen on Monday.  He is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Yomiuri Giants at YafuOku Dome. Source: Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014
  • A batted ball bounced off the outfield wall during Sunday's game against Yakult and struck Akira Nakamura in the face.  Nakamura was later diagnosed with a bruise on his right cheek.  There were concerns about his vision due to swelling, but he appeared to be okay when he checked in with team trainers for treatment on Monday.   • Hayato Terahara had surgery on his right knee on May 27.  He was discharged from a hospital in Fukuoka on Tuesday.  He is scheduled to begin his rehab on Wednesday. Source: Sponichi 6/3/2014, Nikkan Sports 6/3/2014

Orix Buffaloes

  • Yoshio Itoi suffered a cut on his lower lip when a ball he hit bounced and struck him on the month during Sunday's game against Yomiuri.  He needed three stitches to close the cut.  They will be removed in about a week.  He is not expected to miss any playing time. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Atsunori Inaba (left knee) joined the Ichi-gun team for pre-game practices on Tuesday.  "I am at 100 percent in terms of hitting.  I still can't run at full speed.   I have some pain with my first few steps," Inaba said.  He will return to Ni-gun on Saturday and could play in a rehab game some time next week. Hanshin Tigers

  • Kosuke Fukudome may have suffered a fracture in his right collarbone and a left rib when he crashed into Tsuyoshi Nishioka on March 30.  However, he did play in two games (Ni-gun and Ichi-gun) on Thursday.  Source: Sanspo 4/9/2014

Yakult Swallows

  • Kengo Tagawa had surgery to remove a herniated lumbar disc.  He will most likely require about three months for a full recovery.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/10/2014

Seibu Lions

[3/29/2014] Nippon Ham Fighters: Michel Abreu taken off active roster with lower back pain

Michel Abreu was taken off the active roster today with a discopathy.  He is expected to fly to the United States within the next few days for an evaluation.  Surgery has not been ruled out, but there is still a chance he might be able to return fairly quickly.
