[11/23/2013] Lin, Sho, Hsu, Cheng, and Lin to continue careers in CPBL

According to Daily Sports, former NPB players Wei-Chu Lin (34, Hanshin), Ikketsu Sho (27, Hanshin and Softbank), Ming-Chieh Hsu (36, Seibu and Orix), Kai-Wen Cheng (25, Hanshin and Yokohama), and Yi-Hao Lin (22, Yomiuri) are set to continue their careers in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

Yokohama Bay Stars

Hichori Morimoto was senryokugai'ed on the 4th.  He took to Twitter today and told fans he was going to do his best next year.  People close to the situation have also said that Morimoto is hoping to play next year.

Softbank Hawks

The Hawks have their eye on potential free agents Kan Otake (Hiroshima) and Kenichi Nakata (Chunichi).  They may also be looking to the foreign market for another big bat.

Orix Buffaloes

Vinny Rottino returned to the US on Saturday.  The Buffaloes will most likely part ways with the thirty-three-year-old.

The Buffaloes announced that Ming-Chieh Hsu will not be returning in 2014 on Saturday.  He would like to continue playing and is open to playing anywhere.

Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions

Monday

  • Dae-Ho Lee took fifty-nine swings during regular BP and hit four over the fence.  This was in addition to the 102 swings he took during lunchtime BP. (Sports Hochi Osaka) Going back to the lunchtime BP, close to 70% of the baseballs he hits were hit between center and right. (Sankei)  And over half went for could-be hits. (Tokyo Shimbun)

Tuesday

  • Hiroshi Kisanuki threw 104 pitches. (Nikkan Sports)
  • Hayato Terahara threw sixty-two pitches, mostly fastballs. (Nikkan Sports)
  • Chihiro Kaneko threw twenty-one pitches before having to stop because of stiffness in his right elbow.

Hiroshi Kisanuki faced Takahiro Okada and 7th round draft pick Shuhei Kojima during batting practice today and threw fifty-two pitches.  Kisanuki hit the bullpen after tossing batting practice.

Chihiro Kaneko had to cut his bullpen session short today because of stiffness in his right elbowAkinobu Okada later told reporters that he did not think it was serious and that Kaneko would likely be back up and throwing in no time.

Hayato Terahara threw a bullpen session today after canceling one on Monday.

Ming-Chieh Hsu started throwing again on Monday.  Hsu was working out under a separate program after he started experiencing tightness in his lower back on January 3.

Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions

Monday

  • Ming-Chieh Hsu threw forty-five pitches, including off-speed pitches. (Nikkan Sports)

Monday

  • Fumiya Nishiguchi threw 105 pitches.  It was his fifth bullpen session in as many days. (Daily Sports)
  • Kazuhisa Ishii threw 130 pitches. (Sanspo)
  • 2nd round draft pick Hirotaka Koishi threw fifty-two pitches. (Nikkan Sports)

The Lions prepared 100 surgical masks for people visiting the team on Monday.

1st round draft pick Ken Togame tossed batting practice today.  He faced Masato Kumashiro and Takuya Hara and allowed two could-be hits on thirty-six pitches.

2nd round draft pick Hirotaka Koishi faced Shogo Akiyama and Hideto Asamura during batting practice today.  He threw forty-three pitches, nineteen for balls.

Takeya Nakamura is thinking about using a heavier bat this season: from 930 grams to 950 grams.  Nakamura has been using a 940 gram bat during practices so far.

Batting Practice Bullpen Sessions

Friday

  • Dae-Ho Lee took seventy-seven swings and hit six over the fence using a one kilogram training bat.  He also hit one an estimated 140 meters. (Daily Sports)
  • Shinji Takahashi took seventy-six swings and hit five over the fence. (Daily Sports)

Friday

  • Chihiro Kaneko threw twenty pitches to a standing catcher and twenty-one pitches to a squatting catcher.  This was his first session during spring camp. (Daily Sports).

Today was the end of the first block of spring camp for the Buffaloes.  The team has the day off tomorrow.

Ming-Chieh Hsu cut his practices short today after he started feeling tightness in his lower backKoji Yamasaki also left practices early after he hurt his back during fielding practice.

Dae-Ho Lee took 58 swings with a one-kilogram training bat during indoor BP on Thursday.  His regular bat will be slightly lighter than the one he used last year, from 930-940 grams to 920-930 grams.

Lee told reporters on Thursday that he was at 40-50%.

Sports Hochi: Orix Buffaloes have a two-year deal in place with Ming-Chieh Hsu

Sports Hochi is reporting that the Orix Buffaloes and Ming-Chieh Hsu (35) have agreed upon a two-year deal worth a total 100M yen.  An announcement could be made as early as today.

The Buffaloes will likely use Ming-Chieh as a late-inning reliever in order to lighten the workload for Yoshihisa Hirano and Mamoru Kishida.  Hirano and Kishida finished with the first and second most appearances in the Pacific League this season (72 and 68 games respectively).

UPDATE @ 8:37pm - The Buffaloes have announced that they signed Hsu.

Seibu Lions: Ming-Chieh Hsu to exercise domestic FA option

Ming-Chieh Hsu (34) held a press conference at Seibu Dome today and said that he filed the necessary paperwork to exercise his domestic FA option.

Said Hsu, "I am grateful to the Lions, but I wanted to find out what other teams are thinking.  I want to take on a new challenge."
