Kenji Otonari tossed another bullpen session on Monday.  It was his third session of 100 or more pitches in as many days.  He is planning to toss another bullpen on Tuesday.

Nao Higashihama has been working on a curve.  While he is unable to throw a traditional curve because of a complex fracture he suffered when he was in elementary school, he still managed to find a grip that allows him throw a ball with movement like a curve.

Nagisa Arakaki has a slightly longer right leg due to a surgical procedure he had on his right knee when he was a kid.  As a result, his left leg tended to straighten out on the landing.  He is currently trying to use the left knee a little more to improve efficiency and stability.

Koji Akiyama is spending a little more time watching players at Ni-gun camp this spring because there are more of them to watch (especially with all the new foreign players they signed this off-season) and because his presence might keep them motivated.

1st round draft pick Nao Higashihama has apparently been dropped from the opening day starting rotation -- he was informed that his next outing would be at Ni-gun.

The first-half of the rotation: Tadashi SettsuHiroki Yamada, and Shota Takeda.  The second-half: Kenji Otonari, 6th round draft pick Hirofumi Yamanaka, and Vicente Padilla.

Today's Ni-gun game against Chunichi:

Softbank Hawks News and Notes: March 25, 2013

The opening day starting rotation could be: Tadashi SettsuVicente Padilla, 1st round draft pick Nao HigashihamaKenji OtonariShota Takeda, and 6th round draft pick Hirofumi Yamanaka.

Kazuyuki Hoashi is scheduled to pitch in a Ni-gun game against Hanshin at Naruohama on the 31st.  Yamanaka will pitch in a Ni-gun game on the 29th before his first Ichi-gun start on April 4 (vs Seibu at Seibu Dome).

Bryan LaHair could end up batting fourth on opening day with Wily Mo Pena in the five-hole.  Pena missed the last three exhibition games after taking an HBP off his left wrist.  LaHair was tested as a clean-up over the last six games of the exhibition game season and may have won the chance to bat fourth on opening day.

Seiichi Uchikawa will likely bat third and Nobuhiro Matsuda sixth.

The Kyushu Symphony Ochestra will perform the national anthem on opening day.  Golden Bomber's Kenji Darvish is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Today's Ni-gun game against Hiroshima:

1st round draft pick Nao Higashihama started a Ni-gun game against Hiroshima today and gave up a run on five hits over 7.2 innings of work.  He threw ninety-six pitches and got the win.  Source: Nikkan Sports 3/23/2013Sponichi 3/23/2013 ... Seiichi Uchikawa was pulled from Friday's game on defense in the 6th because of tightness in his back.  He sat out a WBC game on the 6th and took painkillers before the semifinals game against Puerto Rico.

According to Nikkan Sports, Hayato Terahara was dropped from the opening day starting rotation because of tightness in his back.

On Friday, he threw forty pitches in the bullpen to a standing catcher.  He also got his back examined at a Fukuoka hospital and was cleared of any major injuries.
