Naoki Miyanishi (29) met with team officials for contract negotiations on Saturday. He decided not to exercise his FA option and instead signed a two-year deal that will pay 180 million yen plus twenty million yen in incentives in 2015. There is also an option for a third year that will become guaranteed if he pitches in fifty or more games in each of the next two seasons. Keiji Obiki (30) started thinking about free agency after the last game of the Final Stage of the Climax Series. After the game, players called to the manager's room and were given encouraging words with plans for the 2015 season. Obiki was expecting to hear something similar, but only got a "good job." The Hiroshima Carp notified Kam Mickolio's (30) agent that they will not be offering a contract for the 2015 season. One team official told reporters while they were confident Mickolio could protect three-run leads, they were concerned about his ability to protect one-run leads.   • The Softbank Hawks could offer Matsuzaka a four-year deal worth 400 million or more a year plus incentives and the number eighteen. The Hawks could be the front runners for a number of reasons, including: Softbank has deep pockets, Matsuzaka's wife is from Fukuoka, Matsuzaka may prefer the less media intensive Fukuoka over Tokyo. [8/19/2014] Nippon Ham Fighters: Naoki Miyanishi earns domestic FA option

Naoki Miyanishi (29) earned his domestic FA option on Tuesday with seven years of service time on the active roster.  Miyanishi told reporters he appreciate everything the organization did for him over the years.  He also said he did not want to think about the option because wanted to focus on the current season.  The Fighters would like Miyanishi to stay and could offer a multi-year deal.

Miyanishi is the first player to earn the domestic option in seven years under revised rules (players drafted out of college or the Industrial League before 2007 need eight years of service time, players drafted out of college or the Industrial League in or after 2007 need seven).

2013 draft class training camp ended today.

Nago City overseeded the outfield grass during the off-season to make sure it was healthy and full for spring camp.

Naoki Miyanishi started working on a sinker last spring after Hiroshi Kisanuki gave him tips on how to throw the fork.  He continued tinkering with the pitch during practices last year and managed to find some consistency during the off-season.  He plans to give it a try during spring camp and could begin using it during the regular season this year.

Michael Crotta threw thirty-five pitches, including breaking balls, to a squatting catcher in the bullpen at the indoor facilities in Sapporo on Tuesday.  He threw at about seventy percent.

Shohei Otani's workouts on Tuesday included warm-ups, playing catch with an outfielder's glove, fielding practice in right, bullpen session (sixty-two pitches), playing catch to make minor adjustments to his mechanics (about twenty throws), and batting practice (fifty-six swings, three hit over the fence).
