Rakuten Eagles

  • The Eagles announced that Zach Lutz returned to the United States for tests on his right thumb. There is no timetable for his return. Lutz suffered a fracture in his right thumb when he was hit by a pitch on July 21. He played in a Ni-gun rehab game on the 4th, but re-injured the thumb. Lutz asked the Eagles if he could return to the US for additional tests because the swelling was not going away. Seibu Lions

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • The Fighters have four players with twenty or more stolen bases this year (through Monday): Haruki Nishikawa with thirty-seven, Takuya Nakashima with twenty-five, Keiji Obiki with twenty-one, and Dai-Kang Yoh with twenty. The Fighters have carried four players with at least twenty stolen bases two other times in franchise history: 1948 (Jiro Kanayama with thirty-five, Makoto Kozuru with twenty-seven, Hiroshi Oshita with twenty-six, and Eikichi Nagamochi with twenty), and 1962 (Shoichi Busujima with twenty-seven, Katsutoyo Yoshida with twenty-six, Akio Saionji with twenty-four, and Isao Harimoto with twenty-three). The 2011 Softbank Hawks were the last team in the Pacific League with four players that had twenty or more stolen bases: Yuichi Honda with sixty, Munenori Kawasaki with thirty-one, Nobuhiro Matsuda with twenty-seven, and Shuhei Fukuda with twenty-two.   • The media learned on Monday that Samurai Japan contacted Atsunori Inaba about a job as a hitting coach for the 2014 Suzuki All-Star Series in November. Inaba participated in the 2013 Baseball Challenge games against Taiwan last November as an assistant hitting coach. "Hiroki Kokubo called me the other day and asked if I could help," said Inaba to reporters during pre-game workouts at Sapporo Dome on Monday. He continued, "I'm still a member [of Nippon Ham]. I spoke to people in the organization about it and they wanted me to go for it. That's where things are." An announcement could be made within the next couple of days.   • Ryota Igarashi set a new franchise record on Saturday by recording his forty-third hold point of the season. The previous high of forty-two was held by Settsu and Brian Falkenborg in 2010. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Shohei Otani could become the first player out of high to school to top 100 million yen in their third year since Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2001. Popularity is a factor when determining player salaries. Otani merchandise is ranked first in sales for the Fighters. He also attracts fans: in nine games at Sapporo Dome (pitching), he has averaged 29,989 in attendance. Through the September 13, the Fighters averaged 26,014 over fifty games. Otani tossed a 1-0 shutout against Orix on Saturday. He became the first pitcher out of high school in franchise history to record a 1-0 shutout victory within his first two years in the NPB since Toshiaki Moriyasu in 1967 (September 23). Hanshin Tigers

  • Ryota Imanari hurt his right side while swinging the bat during his second at bat in the 4th inning of Friday's game against the Hiroshima Carp. He also ran into Takashi Toritani while chasing after a baseball in the 3rd. He was taken off the active roster on Saturday. Source: Sponichi 9/13/2014 ...
