Hanshin Tigers

  • Ryota Arai (lower back) is scheduled to play in a Ni-gun intra-squad rehab game on October 3. It will be he first game in about a month. Source: Sponichi 9/29/2014 ... Arai took fifty-three swings against a pitching machine on Sunday and hit one over the fence. He also chased baseballs in left during batting practices.   • The Marines drew 30,076 in attendance on Sunday for Tomoya Satozaki's retirement game. It was the first time they broke 30,000 in attendance since June 12, 2012. Source: Nikkan Sports 9/28/2014

  • The Buffaloes suffered their fourth walk-off loss of the month on Saturday. The four walk-off losses this month: against Rakuten on the 8th, Kazuo Matsui walk-off home run to left; against Rakuten on the 9th, Motohiro Shima walk-off single to center; against Lotte on the 20th, Yoshifumi Okada walk-off double to left; against Nippon Ham on the 27th, Sho Nakata walk-off home run to left. Yoshihisa Hirano was on the losing end of all four-walk-off losses and became the first pitcher to record four walk-off losses in one month since Kiyoshi Toyoda in August 2001.   • Andruw Jones started with 110 walks on Saturday. He walked four times against the Seibu Lions and became the first player in the Pacific League record to walk 114 times in one season. The previous record of 113 was set by Atsushi Kataoka in 1998. The NPB record of 158 was set by Sadaharu Oh in 1974. Source: Sponichi 9/27/2014
  • Brian Falkenborg will donate 50,000 yen for each victory, hold, and save he records this season to help support children affected by the earthquake in Iwate Prefecture.   • The Buffaloes' flight to Sapporo out of Kobe was supposed to leave at 10:30am. But mechanical troubles (problems with a tire) delayed the flight until 12:43pm. The team got to Chitose Airport at 2:35pm and hopped on a bus to Sapporo Dome. They arrived at the stadium at 3:50pm. [9/27/2014] Nippon Ham Fighters: Makoto Kaneko to retire after the season

Makoto Kaneko held a press conference at Sapporo Dome today to announce his decision to retire after the current season. Retirement ceremonies/events will be held on September 29 and October 1.

"I have no regrets," said Kaneko. "I love baseball players so I do feel sad about retiring, but I have no regrets over the things I've done during my twenty-one year career."
