Rakuten Eagles

  • Senichi Hoshino arrived at kobo Stadium at 12:005pm on Thursday for practices. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/24/2014 ... Tokyo Sports recap: Hoshino arrived at 12:06pm, team meeting began at 12:55pm, Hoshino appeared on the field at 1:10pm.  About fifty members of the media and eight TV cameras covered Hoshino's first day back.   • Hiroyuki Kobayashi's fastball averaged 145km/h during his one inning out on Wednesday against Ni-gun Lotte.  He topped out at 148km/h.  The Lions will most likely add Kobayashi to the active roster on Friday.   • The Lions became the fifth team in NPB history to record five or more walk-off victories in one month: Hankyu (six in July 1955), Daimai (five in August 1959), Yomiuri (five in July 1968), Yakult (five in May 1993), Seibu (five in July 2014).  They also became the first team in the Pacific League to have five different players record a walk-off in one month. Rakuten Eagles

Seibu Lions

Chiba Lotte Marines

  • Hideaki Wakui will be called back to the Ichi-gun roster for a start on Saturday against the Seibu Lions at Seibu Dome due to a lack of arms.  Wakui did toss two shutout innings in a Ni-gun game against Seibu on Monday.  Yoshihisa Naruse will also return to the active roster in time for a start on Sunday against Seibu. Orix Buffaloes

  • The Eagles are not sure where to place interim manager Hiromoto Okubo when Senichi Hoshino returns.  He could go back to managing at Ni-gun, or remain at Ichi-gun as a head coach.   • Takashi Saito recorded his first victory of the year on Monday at the age of forty-four years and five months.  He joined Shinji Hamazaki, Kimiyasu Kudo, and Masahiro Yamamoto as the only pitchers in NPB history to win one or more games after turning forty-four.  He also became the first pitcher in NPB history to record a win, save, and hold after turning forty-four. Seibu Lions

Softbank Hawks

  • Keizo Kawashima has been assigned the number thirty-five, Ryo Hidaka the number forty.  Kawashima will most likely play in a Ni-gun game against Orix at YafuOku Dome on the 25th.  His assignment will be decided based on how well he does during the game. Orix Buffaloes

  • The Buffaloes were in Cuba between the 13th and 18th.  They met with officials from the Baseball Federation of Cuba and had a chance to see a number of players.  The organization does not plan on signing any players from Cuba this year, but are interested in possibilities for next season. Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Yuki Matsui is slated to get another start on the 23rd against the Seibu Lions at Seibu Dome.  He threw thirty-three pitches in the bullpen on Sunday.  It will be his first start since June 19. Source: Nikkan Sports 7/20/2014
