Seibu Lions

  • On Thursday, Hideto Asamura hit two home runs on Thursday.  It was the third two home run game of his career (May 31, 2013, July 4, 2013, and April 17, 2014).  He joined Takeya Nakamura (April 30, 2009) as the only clean-up hitters in franchise history to hit a grand slam in the 1st inning of a game.  Source: Sanspo 4/18/2014, Sponichi 4/18/2014

Rakuten Eagles

  • 1st round draft pick Yuki Matsui has lost three starts in a row, beginning with the first start of his career.  He is the seventh pitcher since the start of the draft to begin a season with three or more consecutive losses, first since Hideaki Wakui in 2005.  He is the first pitcher out of high school since the start of the two league format to lose three in a row, beginning with their first appearance.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/17/2014 ... Softbank Hawks

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • At twenty-seven years and nine month, Hideaki Wakui became the youngest pitcher to record victories from all twelve NPB teams.  The previous record of twenty-eight years and eleven months was set by Yasutomo Kubo.  Source: Sanspo 4/16/2014

Hanshin Tigers

  • Ryoma Matsuda started having problems with his right elbow during spring camp.  The Tigers shut him down and he has yet to start playing catch.  There is currently no timetable on him.  There is a good chance he will miss the first-half of the season.  Source: Daily Sports 4/14/2014

Hiroshima Carp

  • Kenta Maeda is scheduled to play some catch on the 16th.  The Carp will wait to make a decision on him until they have had a chance to see how he is feeling on the 16th.  Source: Sponichi 4/14/2014 ... If Maeda is okay to pitch, he could get a start during a Yokohama series that begins on the 18th.  The 20th, on seven days of rest, is a possibility.  Looking to next week, Kenjiro Nomura is hoping Maeda will be okay for the Yomiuri series that begins on the 25th.  If Maeda needs rest, the Carp could take him off the active roster as late as the 17th without losing him as an option to start the last game of the Yomiuri series on the 27th.  Source: Sponichi 4/14/2014, Sanspo 4/14/2014

Yokohama Bay Stars

Nippon Ham Fighters

  • Atsunori Inaba had surgery to clean out his left knee at a hospital in Sapporo on Monday.  He will stay in the hospital for a couple of days before beginning his rehab at the Ni-gun facilities in Chiba.  He will require five to six weeks for a full recovery.  Source: Nikkan Sports 4/14/2014
