Samurai Japan updates:

  • Potential starters after Shohei Otani: Kenta Maeda against Mexico on November 11, Tomoyuki Sugano against the Dominican Republic on November 12, Shota Takeda against the United States on November 14, and Yasuhiro Ogawa against Venezuela on November 15. If Japan makes it further, they could turn to Sugano and Maeda for the Semifinal and Final games. Takahiro Norimoto could also get a start, depending on how things go. Source: Sponichi 11/4/2015 ... Samurai Japan posted the starting pitchers for tomorrow's practice game against Puerto Rico.

According to Tokyo Sports, Samurai Japan's starting line-up for tomorrow's game will be as follows:

CF Akiyama, Shogo
SS Sakamoto, Hayato
2B Yamada, Tetsuto
DH Nakamura, Takeya
LF Tsutsugo, Yoshitomo
1B Nakata, Sho
3B Matsuda, Nobuhiro
RF Hirata, Ryosuke
C Shima, Motohiro

Additionally, Maeda is expected to toss three innings. Shohei Otani is slated to relieve Maeda.

  • Samurai Japan will live and die with its starting pitchers.
  • Potential starting pitchers: Shohei Otani, Kenta Maeda, Tomoyuki Sugano, and Shota Takeda. Takahiro Norimoto could be used as either a starter or an arm out of the bullpen.
  • Starters for the fourth and fifth game of the tournament have yet to be decided. The Game 1 starter has already been informed.
  • Kokubo had access to a tablet with film from every Ichi-gun game. He spent a lot of time with his selections.

According to a report by Sports Hochi, Hiroki Kuroda pulled himself out of the running for a spot on the Premier 12 roster when he informed Samurai Japan manager Hiroki Kokubo that he was in no shape to participate.
